Elayn Hunt Correctional Center is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join the team in the Nursing Department as aLicensed Practical Nurse! You could join the group of other medical professionals who perform the nursing and care of inmates within a state correctional facility. Possession of a current Louisiana Practical Nurse license, a temporary permit, or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.Job Duties:
  • Provide direct patient care, including comfort, hygiene, safety, nutrition, and overall well-being, under RN or senior LPN guidance.

  • Monitor and assess patients,promptlyreportingchangesinphysicalormentalstatustothehealthcareteam.

  • Collectspecimens,performdiagnostictests,andaccuratelyrecordvital signs (temperature,pulse,respiration,bloodpressure).

  • Administer medications and treatments safely,followingestablishedprotocolsanddocumentingcareaccurately.

  • Participateinshift handovers,ensuringcontinuityofcareandclearcommunicationwiththeteam.

  • Assistwithpatient admissions, transfers, and discharges,maintainingsafetyandefficiency.

  • Respond to emergencies, including performing CPR and first aidasneeded.

  • Manage inventory and supplies, requesting and restocking medications and equipment to support patient care.


Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type:PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

  • Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
  • This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.

Compensation:This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER)at each level.However, the salary offered will be determinedbased on qualifications and experience.

  • Licensed Practical Nurse 1 has an SER of$19.48 per hour
  • Licensed Practical Nurse 2 has an SER of $20.84 per hour
  • Licensed Practical Nurse 3 has an SER of$22.30 per hour

This position also offers premium pay at a rate of $5.00 per hourfor each hour worked, in addition to regular pay.

Career Progression Group:Licensed Practical Nurse 1, 2, or 3

  • Filled at the highest level of experience of the selected applicant.
  • Salary depends on level of experience.

    • This is a 24 hour facility.
