Job Summary

  • Performs limited clinical diagnostic procedures for patients with sleep related disorders. Administration of oxygen or positive airway pressure must be under the direct supervision of a registered polysomnographer. Other duties may include scoring, community education, marketing and inventory management.

Essential Functions

  • Prepares for the arrival of the patient by setting up and preparing the equipment for the ordered test
  • Interviews patient to determine sleep disorder issues and to explain testing procedures
  • Performs testing and any additional testing required for sleep disorder that is noted
  • Scores, interprets, and reports results of sleep studies
  • Educates patients about test results, sleep disorders, community support groups, and available resources
  • Prepares, calibrates, repairs, and maintains equipment required for testing
  • Determines and reports needed repairs and replacements
  • Maintains proper supplies to care for patients
  • Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills with patients, patient families, laboratory staff, physicians, and other members of the hospital staff
  • Monitors the patient throughout the night, observing cardiac rhythm and respiration of abnormalities

Qualifications

Education

  • Graduate of accredited Polysomnography program required
  • Graduate of JRCRTE and AMA approved School of Respiratory Therapy preferred

Licenses/Certifications

  • None required

Experience

  • 3-5 years experience as a polysomnographic technician required.
