Under the direction of the Director of the Senate Business Office and supervised by the Sergeant at Arms/ Chief of Police (Chief of Police) and the Assistant Sergeant at Arms/Lieutenant of Operations, the Assistant Sergeant at Arms/Police Officer - Operations is an MCOLES certified Police Officer for the Michigan Senate Police Department (MSPD). The Assistant Sergeant at Arms/Police Officer - Operations provides safety and security for Senators, staff, and visitors of the Senate in and around the Michigan State Capitol complex, and Legislative events occurring outside the Capitol Complex; attends sessions of the Senate, committee meetings, and other Senate events providing security and related services as needed or assigned. The Assistant Sergeant at Arms/Police Officer - Operations primary focus is on critical incident preparedness, coordinating the response to a disaster, emergency or active violence event, and recovery from an event. The Assistant Sergeant at Arms/Police Officer - Operations will cross-train and job-rotate with the Assistant Sergeant at Arms/Police Officer Public Safety team to assure complete coverage of each post and assignment.
