LSU Shreveport is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Police Officer 3 in theUniversity Police Department. This role involves performing advanced law enforcement duties and supporting supervisory functions to help ensure the safety and security of the campus community. We are looking for a highly skilled, dependable professional with strong judgment, leadership abilities, and a commitment to public safety and community-oriented policing.

practices.

Two years of law enforcement experience.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.Job Duties:
•All activities, responses, and duties performed by any Certified Louisiana Police Officer. These could include and are not limited to patrol, investigations, court proceedings, evidence collection, mandatory department training, as well as the general university properties/buildings, but primarily those located at the Pilot Pointe Apartments for direct oversight. Additionally, these may require the completion of these tasks to be done outside of the established work schedule for activities such as parties, large outdoor events, student interaction at planned events, making patrol rounds with the Student RA's and communicating with Student Affairs personnel regarding student conduct and incidents that are noncriminal and/or criminal in nature.

•Efforts will be made by the officer to conduct community-oriented policing in the Pilot Pointe Apartment student community. The officer will attend orientation events to impart crime prevention suggestions, situational awareness, noting suspicious incidents/behavior and how to report them to police.

•Efforts applied to Department-supported projects related to Community Engagement. Such projects would include, but not limited to: National Night Out, student self-defense classes, public service, etc.

•Support the Sergeant, Lieutenant and Chief of Police with a good positive attitude, through initiatives designed to evolve and improve the department as an essential employee. This may include corresponding with stakeholders around and/or off campus, working emergencies on campus due to weather-related events, pandemic, and/or extenuating circumstances.

Work Schedule: Shift work
Rate of Pay: A special entrance rate has been established in accordance with State Civil Service Rule 6.5(b). The special entrance rate for the Police Officer 3 position is $21.27 per hour.
