Job Title: Pipefitter / Welder

Job Description

This role involves performing commercial pipefitting and welding work on new construction and renovation projects in the Tampa and St. Petersburg area. The pipefitter/welder will install and repair piping systems in mechanical rooms, with a strong focus on HVAC air handler installations and related piping systems.

Responsibilities

  • Plan the installation and repair of piping systems, including cutting, threading, and bending pipe according to specifications and blueprints.
  • Lay out, assemble, install, maintain, and repair a wide range of commercial pipe systems in mechanical and construction environments.
  • Install and secure hangers, supports, and brackets to ensure piping systems are properly supported and aligned.
  • Install valves, couplings, and other fittings to complete piping assemblies and ensure proper system function.
  • Perform pipe welding and brazing on carbon steel and copper piping as required for HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Thread pipe and prepare joints to meet project specifications and industry standards.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, and schematics to complete installations accurately.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of commercial construction experience in pipefitting and welding.
  • Proficiency in soldering and brazing carbon steel pipe and copper pipe.
  • Hands-on experience working with Schedule 40 steel pipe ranging from 2.5 inches to 8 inches.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
  • Demonstrated pipefitting skills, including layout, cutting, threading, and installation of piping systems.
  • Strong pipe welding skills for commercial and mechanical applications.
  • Experience installing valves, couplings, hangers, brackets, and related piping components.
  • 6G welding certification or the ability to pass a 6G weld test.
  • Solid understanding of commercial construction practices and mechanical room installations.
  • Commitment to working safely and following all required safety procedures and PPE requirements.

Work Environment

Work takes place on large, active commercial jobsites in the Tampa and St. Petersburg area, including major hospital facilities. The role involves both indoor and outdoor work in mechanical rooms and general construction areas, alongside other trade partners. The schedule runs Monday through Friday, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Personal protective equipment must be worn at all times, and adherence to safety standards is essential in this fast-paced construction environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tampa, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
