Job Title: Phlebotomist

Job Description

The primary role of a Phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training, and make workflow recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform blood draws, label specimens, and centrifuge specimens.
  • Record maintenance data and ensure proper decontamination.
  • Update patient information accurately.
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection clearly and courteously.
  • Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
  • Understand and follow all physician orders and laboratory requisition forms.
  • Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
  • Check all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
  • Package specimens for transport and store them at the required temperature.
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
  • Attend annual department trainings.
  • Answer telephone calls and provide laboratory results for inquiries.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in phlebotomy and blood draw techniques.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 months work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

The role involves handling various types of specimens and interacting with patients and healthcare professionals. The dress code typically requires wearing appropriate lab attire.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Omaha, NE.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
