Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections is seeking a qualified Pharmacy Technician to join the healthcare team at Louisiana State Penitentiary. This position assists in medication preparation, inventory management, prescription processing, and maintaining pharmacy records in a correctional healthcare setting. Qualified applicants should possess pharmacy technician certification/registration (preferred) and strong attention to detail. Prior pharmacy or healthcare experience is preferred.

• Verify information on prescriptions is complete and accurate.
• Fill and dispense all prescriptions received by the Pharmacy Department.
• Sort and route all filled medications to the appropriate locations at LSP, DCI, and RLCC.
• Pre-package the most commonly prescribed medications utilizing pill packaging equipment via machine and/or manual.
• Also packages individual prescriptions for dispensing by a licensed Pharmacist
• Pharmacy technician certification
• LA Board of Pharmacy Certified
• Work with adult male inmates of all custody levels – minimum, medium, maximum (death row), and protective custody.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type:PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

• Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
• An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
• This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.

Compensation:This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $15.77 per hour.

Note regarding the advertised pay range:The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make at each level over their career andNOT the amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.

• Any degree, certificate, special license, or DD-214 must be verified by official documentation prior to hire.
• Any qualifying experience that is based on college credit/college hours should have an accompanying transcript for verification.
  • This is a 24-hour facility.
