Job Title: Pharmacist-in-Charge
Job Description

This leadership-focused Pharmacist-in-Charge role oversees daily pharmacy operations, ensures clinical and regulatory excellence, and provides direct patient care through prescription verification and counseling. The position offers meaningful operational ownership, opportunities for multi-state licensure with reimbursement support, and the chance to build skills that translate beyond traditional retail pharmacy settings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily shift huddles to align the team, communicate priorities, and ensure a clear understanding of workflow expectations.
  • Assign responsibilities to pharmacy technicians and set workflow priorities to maintain efficient and accurate prescription processing.
  • Serve as the pharmacist-in-charge during assigned shifts, providing direction, oversight, and escalation support for complex issues.
  • Conduct prescription pre-checks and final verifications to ensure accuracy, clinical appropriateness, and patient safety.
  • Provide patient counseling on medication use, side effects, interactions, and safety considerations as needed.
  • Mentor and coach pharmacists and technicians, offering real-time feedback and support to develop clinical and operational skills.
  • Support onboarding and training of new pharmacists, technicians, students, and interns to ensure consistent standards of practice.
  • Ensure smooth shift transitions through clear communication, thorough documentation, and effective handoffs between teams.
  • Maintain accurate medication records, patient profiles, and controlled substance logs in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee inventory levels, including ordering, receiving, and proper storage of medications to prevent shortages and waste.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal pharmacy regulations, privacy laws, and internal standard operating procedures.
  • Identify workflow gaps or operational challenges and collaborate with leadership to recommend and implement process improvements.
  • Stay current with clinical developments, drug information, and best practices to support high-quality patient care.
  • Support student or intern training, where applicable, by providing guidance, supervision, and learning opportunities.
Essential Skills
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Active pharmacist license in the state of Ohio.
  • Strong clinical knowledge across a broad range of medications and therapeutic areas.
  • High level of attention to detail to ensure accurate dispensing, documentation, and compliance.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for patient counseling and team collaboration.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy software systems and electronic health record (EHR) platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, prioritize workflow, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Multi-state pharmacist licensure is a plus; reimbursement and assistance are available for obtaining additional state licenses.
  • Experience in pharmacy operations, including inventory management and controlled substance oversight.
  • Background in compounding or pharmaceutical preparation is beneficial.
  • Strong collaboration skills with the ability to mentor, coach, and support professional development of team members.
  • Comfort with identifying process gaps and participating in continuous improvement initiatives.
Work Environment

This is a first-shift, Monday–Friday role with daytime hours designed to support work-life balance. The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, with limited or rotating Saturday coverage as needed and no Sunday shifts. The work environment is a professional pharmacy setting that relies on pharmacy management software and electronic health record systems to manage prescriptions, patient profiles, and clinical documentation. You will work closely with pharmacists, technicians, students, and interns in a collaborative, team-oriented environment that emphasizes patient safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. The setting supports a structured, organized workflow with clear shift handoffs and leadership support, and follows a professional dress code appropriate for a clinical pharmacy environment.

This is a Permanent position based out of Fairfield, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $145000.00 - $155000.00/yr.
