Job Description

The Pharmacist is responsible for supporting pharmacy management goals and objectives within the dispensing pharmacy. This role provides routine and emergency drug screening, information, processing, and dispensing services across multiple drug distribution systems. The Pharmacist ensures accuracy, safety, regulatory compliance, and efficient delivery of medications while supporting pharmacy staff and daily operations.

Responsibilities

  • Execute day-to-day pharmacy operations related to workflow, production quotas, and deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations governing the practice of pharmacy.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with DEA policies and procedures as outlined by applicable regulatory agencies, following the stricter standard.
  • Ensure compliance with all third-party payer contract requirements.
  • Supervise pharmacy production staff to support proper order entry, workflow efficiency, pharmacy security, and delivery schedules.
  • Review all new and refill medication orders for completeness and accuracy.
  • Verify accuracy of drug packaging and labeling.
  • Prepare and supervise the preparation of sterile IV drug products and solutions.
  • Assist with ordering, handling, receiving, documentation, and storage of controlled substances.
  • Assist in maintaining a perpetual inventory for Schedule II medications.
  • Provide evening, weekend, and holiday coverage as part of scheduled on-call rotation or as required by management.
  • Follow all applicable government regulations including HIPAA.
  • Work overtime, holidays, and weekends as required or expected.
  • Comply with departmental policies related to safety, attendance, and dress code.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • Current license to practice pharmacy in good standing.
  • Proficient in clinical interpretation: drug-drug, drug-disease, drug-food interactions and allergies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Perform accurately and efficiently when dispensing prescription medications.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evening, weekends, and holidays.

Work Environment

  • This position operates in a long-term care facility. The role may involve the use of standard office and pharmacy equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, rolling carts, and fax machines. A large portion of the work will be performed in the long-term care facility where noise levels may vary. The physical demands include sitting or standing for seven to ten hours per day, occasional climbing or balancing, and lifting or moving up to 25 pounds. No travel is expected for this position.

Shift Details for the Role:

Primary Working Shift

  • Evening shift- 3:30 PM until close. Close target is 12:30 AM when the medication run leaves. Actual end time may vary based on workflow
  • Some evenings end earlier around 11:00 to 11:30 PM

Training Shift:

• Initial training will be on day shift- 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM - Training runs for a couple of weeks

• Training conducted by experienced pharmacists before transition to evenings

Weekend Shift Requirement

• Every other weekend while on contract - Saturday and Sunday day shifts - Approximately 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM

• Weekend pharmacists stay until the run leaves

• After conversion to permanent, weekend rotation shifts to standard internal cadence

Important Clarifications

• This role is strictly an evening pharmacist role after training

• Shift structure is designed to prevent burnout and support work life balance

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Berlin, CT.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $75.00/hr.
