If so, the City of Bellevue is looking for you to be our next Performance and Business Analytics Intern. This position offers rare experience doing hands-on performance management work in a future-focused local government: creating performance indicators and dashboards for operational services, conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses of organizational performance management practices, and providing training and technical assistance to city departments on a variety of business intelligence activities.
The internship position is located within the city’s Finance & Asset Management Department, which is home to the Business Systems and Intelligence Team. The Business Systems and Intelligence Team connects performance management, continuous improvement, and data analytics, and supports the city as a whole in their journey to be more data informed, transparent, and responsive to their customers. The Business Systems and Intelligence team does this by helping the City of Bellevue answer three questions:
1) Do we understand our business and are we doing the right work?
2) How do we do our work better and better every day?
3) Are we meeting the expectations of our customers, both internal and external to the city, and are we keeping our promises?
In collaboration with the Business Systems and Intelligence (BSI) Team, city staff, and other key partners, the intern may:
- Support citywide performance management efforts to promote and improve the use of data-informed decision-making and center diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Coordinate enterprise performance measures updates, leading staff through metrics selection activities, conducting performance analysis, and producing public-facing narrative reports.
- Support the redesign of the city’s performance management framework, including implementing process enhancements and facilitating department training and adoption.
- Develop and implement maturity assessments to measure growth in enterprise performance management meetings which help staff at all levels understand successes and progress toward Bellevue’s goals.
- Support continuous improvement work: conduct process mapping, support process improvements, and assist with trainings and other projects.
- Conduct data analysis and data management for city activities, including program management, data review meetings, process improvements, community surveys, and budget development.
- Coordinate city certification process: lead efforts to gather documentation, conduct outreach to city partners, and act as liaison with certification staff.
- Help manage projects, facilitate meetings, and provide management analysis where needed to support the BSI Team.
- In order to be considered for an internship you must be currently enrolled in school, in pursuit of a degree.
- Ability to manage projects, facilitate meetings, conduct interviews, and perform best practices research.
- Familiarity with performance management practices and principles. (Work or volunteer experience in this area preferred but not required.)
- Demonstrated commitment to centering equity in work and a developed understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Interest in data analytics, including practices, platforms, and visualizations. (Work or volunteer experience in this area preferred but not required.)
- Familiarity with local government structures and operations. (Work or volunteer experience in this area preferred but not required.)
- Interest in public service and the impact that local government can have on people’s lives.

Hours:15-20 hours per week. Maximum 20 hours per week (as required for interns while enrolled in school.)
Start Date: Late May or early June 2026. Internship can last up to the intern’s graduation date, depending on project availability and organizational need.
Expected End Date: Spring 2027 (May or June 2027 dependent on education program).
Flexible/Hybrid Working:
A hybrid work schedule is available for this position after an orientation period working in the office after hire. Remote work for this position is subject to department's operational needs and will be discussed with candidates during the selection process. Full-time remote work is not an available option. Once hired, employees must reside in the State of Washington and within reasonable commuting distance to Bellevue City Hall.
Definition of Student Intern:
- Must be enrolled in a bona fide education program. Full time employees taking evening classes, those enrolled in one course, or those going to school periodically are not considered student interns.
- During the school year must be scheduled to work 20 hours or fewer per week.
- During special situations (i.e. specific internship programs through school) or during school breaks, can be scheduled to work more than 20 hours, up to full time, if appropriate.
- Must be terminated as a student intern when no longer associated with an education program.
- At-will for the duration of the student intern status.
