What You’ll Do
The Pediatric Readiness Coordinator will serve as a Project Manager embedded within the Indiana Department of Health (IDOH) Division of Emergency Preparedness (DEP), focusing on strengthening pediatric and obstetric emergency care capacity in rural Indiana — coordinating training, equipment deployment, technical assistance, and systems-level alignment across a complex network of state and regional partners.
In this role, you will provide senior project management leadership for activities, serving as the primary point of contact for implementation questions from both internal DEP staff and external partners. You will work closely with IDOH program leadership and collaborate across FSSA, Indiana EMSC, IDHS, regional healthcare coalitions, and local rural hospitals and EMS agencies. This is a hybrid position based in Indianapolis with statewide travel required to support on-the-ground engagement with rural regions and healthcare systems.
Program Administration
- Provide end-to-end senior project management, including workplan development, timelines, risk management, and tracking of milestones and deliverables aligned with RHTP/GROW grant requirements.
- Support planning and execution of needs assessments, training, equipment deployment, and technical assistance offered to rural EDs and EMS.
- Support development and maintenance of standardized tools (templates, SOPs, checklists) that promote consistent implementation across rural regions and healthcare systems.
Stakeholder Coordination & Engagement
- Coordinate and synchronize activities between IDOH, FSSA, Indiana Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC), Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS), regional healthcare coalitions, and local rural hospitals and EMS agencies to support pediatric and obstetric readiness in emergency departments.
- Facilitate regular stakeholder meetings, workgroups, and communications to connect Emergency Care Coordinators (ECCs), perinatal centers, non-birthing facilities, and EMS partners, documenting decisions, action items, and follow-up.
- Serve as a primary point of contact within DEP for implementation questions from internal and external partners.
- Collaborate with regional preparedness staff and healthcare coalitions to align activities with broader emergency preparedness, transfer coordination, and surge planning efforts (e.g., MOCC, EMS capacity).
- Organize and support outreach, education, and communication strategies to rural EDs and EMS agencies, ensuring awareness of available training, equipment, and technical assistance opportunities.
Reporting & Grant Compliance
- Track and report on performance metrics (e.g., training completion, equipment distribution, readiness scores, transfer and outcome measures) to inform grant reporting and quality improvement.
- Ensure activities comply with Rural Health Transformation Program (RHTP) and state requirements, including documentation needed for federal and state oversight.
- Assist DEP and program leadership with preparation of status reports, dashboards, and narrative updates for internal leadership, GROW governance, and federal partners, summarizing progress toward goals of improving pediatric and obstetric outcomes in rural EDs.
Requirements
- Demonstrated experience in senior project management, preferably in public health, emergency preparedness, hospital/EMS operations, or maternal/child health
- Familiarity with state health department operations, grants management, and coordination with healthcare coalitions, hospitals, and EMS systems
- Understanding of public health functions, systems, and infrastructure
- Ability to manage and develop multiple projects independently and in a team environment, and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
- Ability to analyze programs for innovative practices and translate these into synthesized products and outcomes for state-based public health preparedness
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, management, partner agencies and organizations, state and local officials, and the public
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Adept in Microsoft Office Suite, various social media, and other virtual platforms
- Ability to develop and maintain collaborative networks
Highly Desired:
- Hospital ED experience preferred
- RN licensure
