We are seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused Patient Services Representative II to join our team. In this role, you will serve as a vital link between patients and our billing operations, ensuring a smooth check-in experience while supporting the early stages of the revenue cycle. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable in insurance processes, committed to excellent customer service, and comfortable handling both administrative and financial responsibilities in a fast-paced medical office environment.

Position Type: Full-time, Non-exempt

Pay Information: $17 - $21 per hour


SUMMARY:

Patient Services Representative II is physically present in every office but acts as an extension of our remote Billing team as the initial phase of the Revenue Cycle. In addition to guiding patients through the operational process of checking in, the PSR II role is instrumental in collecting/verifying insurance information for accuracy, educating patients on their financial responsibility for payment, and is familiar with the revenue cycle process in general. Provides patient with post-appointment summary and schedules next appointment while patient is in the office.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Check patients in by collecting information required for visit
  • Verify demographics and insurance are current
  • Schedule patient for next office appointment and give visit summary when leaving office
  • Collect copay and other applicable balance due by patient
  • Assist patients in education of their financial responsibility with demonstrated knowledge of insurance plans, copayments and familiarity with FHMS’s revenue cycle
  • Confirm/verify insurance benefits with the appropriate carrier via online verification systems or telephone inquiries
  • Promote FHMS patient portal and assist patients in registration for this service
  • Obtain signature of patient or family member for consent to treatment and financial responsibility following the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules and regulations
  • Merge duplicate patient charts
  • Posting receipts from chart central
  • Collecting and posting payments made in office
  • Billing department administrative duties as assigned
  • Complete daily scan of incoming mail and records
  • Completes daily cash out and deposit
  • Handles cash bag per policy
  • Work within designated tank to call patients
  • Maintain office cleanliness set by OSHA standards
  • Maintain strict HIPAA standards related to patient information
  • Participate and communicate in team meetings to identify and problem solve processes
  • Any additional duties assigned by PSR Supervisor or Billing Manager as needed for effective department or interdepartmental teamwork

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology required
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and copayments required
  • 1-2 years experience in a medical office role required
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associates Degree in related field preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills


PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Prior medical billing experience
  • Certified Coder
  • 1-2 years of Medent experience preferred other EMR experience considered
  • Excellent customer service skills required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical requirements and working environment are typical of most medical office settings. Employees are frequently required to sit for long periods of time, stand, walk, balance, hear, talk, reach, and use their hands. Employees may occasionally be required to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb (stepstool) and stretch. Physical effort requires some lifting usually not in excess of 15 pounds. The office work environment is indoors and free from dust, smoke, moisture, and excessive noise.
