The Montgomery County Department of Parks – Southern Parks Division is seeking two experienced, hands-on Parks/Facilities Maintenance Leaders to support daily park operations, guide teams, and ensure safe, high-quality maintenance across our parks and facilities. These roles are ideal for leaders who thrive in the field, are skilled in coordinating people and resources, and can balance operational priorities with administrative follow-through. Southern Parks Divisionmeets both local and regional leisure needs by providing opportunities for a wide variety of outdoor recreational activities in the most densely populated areas of Montgomery County. The division manages over 200 parks, including Urban, Local, and Regional Parks. These parks include almost 200 playgrounds, 150 athletic fields, 60 miles of trails, and 50 picnic shelters. This division utilizes the skills of nearly 200 employees and 100 pieces of equipment to accomplish the Department's mission.

We are interviewing for two Leader positions: one based at the Wheaton Maintenance Facility (Position #11371), which requires a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), and one based at the Meadowbrook Maintenance Facility (Position #10225), which requires a Pesticide Applicator Certificate (PAC). Both roles are integral to supporting our mission of providing safe, accessible, and well-maintained parks for the community. As a Park Leader, you will oversee day-to-day operations and the safe operation of CDL and non-CDL vehicles and equipment to perform and support park maintenance activities. You will lead and direct diverse teams of park maintenance workers—both career staff and seasonal employees—by organizing daily assignments, setting clear expectations, coaching for quality and safety, and verifying that work standards and timelines are met. You’ll coordinate resources for turf and landscape care, trails and hardscape upkeep, which may include refuse and recycling, athletic field preparation, storm response, and facility support. In addition to routine parks, facilities, and grounds operations, you will lead special projects that may include scheduled renovations, capital project support, large-scale cleanups, amenity installations, event readiness, and seasonal initiatives. These projects will require planning work scopes, sequencing tasks, collaborating across teams, and tracking progress to completion. You will model best practices in safety, risk management, and environmental stewardship while ensuring compliance with applicable policies, permits, and procedures. These positions also perform administrative duties essential to effective operations, including scheduling and timekeeping, work order creation and closure, inventory and materials coordination, equipment and vehicle inspections, vendor coordination, and basic reporting on productivity, service levels, and safety. Strong communication is key: you’ll interact with internal partners, community members, and supervisors to share updates, address service requests, and support excellent customer service.
