Packaging Designer

Our client, a Premier Packaging Design Agency in New York City, is seeking a creative Packaging Designer with at least 3-4 years of structural packaging experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural design, with a keen eye for detail and a passion for creating innovative and functional packaging solutions. They are looking for a candidate who is motivated, a natural leader with meticulous organizational skills, has a great working attitude and stellar work ethic. Candidates must be able to work well with others and under pressure meeting tight deadlines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and develop innovative structural packaging solutions for a variety of products.
  • Able to conceptualize package designs, create and present prototypes and mock-ups for internal reviews and client presentations.
  • Generate packaging die-lines and templates for new packaging inquiry.
  • Generate and update design files with detailed dimensions and material information.
  • Utilize 2D and 3D software and other design tools to produce detailed technical drawings and specifications.
  • Distribute design files for development and collaborate with the Accounts and Production team to ensure seamless communication and project alignment.
  • Have a strong understanding of structures and all variables that affect the structural integrity and overall design of a project.
  • Identify suitable packaging materials and conducting feasibility studies
  • Manage the entire design process from conception to final production.
  • Check pre-production/ final production samples and address any product issues or challenges in a timely manner.
  • Assist Design Team and Design Director on daily tasks.
  • Always a productive participant looking for ways to improve or propose solutions to existing processes or structure.
  • Have a strong understanding of current market trends in packaging, materials/technologies that can be used in packaging.
  • Brainstorming packaging ideas using hand sketches, verbal cues, words, and design software.
  • Proofread and revise designs for errors.
  • Responsible for maintaining quality standards and consistency for the company and brand's packaging and brand identity.
  • Strong eye for design, page composition and layout, typography, and colour theory
  • Knowledge of press and printing processes
  • Collaborates closely with clients, stakeholders, and other departments to ensure alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Maintains a keen sense of urgency, serving as a bridge between the design team, other departments, and senior management throughout the process. Proactively stays informed about critical deadlines and requirements, facilitating effective communication and ensuring timely delivery of project milestones.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks effectively, and meet project deadlines and brand specifications without compromising quality.
  • Able to lead the junior members of the team in the creation and execution of packaging concepts from ideation to final production, while providing guidance, inspiration, feedback and support to the team.
  • Reports to senior members of the team and management within the organization as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in packaging design, industrial design, graphic design, art, or a similar field with at least 3-4 years of packaging experience
  • Ability to create initial specs and generate design files
  • Knowledgeable with the product development process
  • Quick learner with ability to take direction
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong illustration skills and rendering skills.
  • Natural talent for design and a keen eye for detail.
  • Strong time management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written, verbal communication skills, and work ethic
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite (i.e. Keynote, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) Rhino, Keyshot or other similar design software.
  • Experience with market research and familiarity with various packaging material
