P&C Technician

Job Description

As a P&C Technician, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing protection and control systems that monitor and protect power substations. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and computer skills to work with various equipment, including microprocessor relays, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), sensors, pumps, and motors.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot protection and control relaying and associated devices.
  • Perform calibration of various types of protection and control relays and devices.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining protection and control documentation.
  • Assist assigned project lead with field assignments.
  • Install, program, and maintain protection and control relays and devices.
  • Participate in process hazard analyses.
  • Maintain knowledge of current industry trends and practices.
  • Perform operational checks and tests on substation equipment, including microprocessor and electromechanical relays, current transformers, and power circuit breakers.
  • Troubleshoot and perform preventive and emergent maintenance on substation equipment.
  • Operate and interpret readings from test equipment such as digital multimeters, digital oscilloscopes, and relay test sets.
  • Verify that wiring construction work is performed according to detailed design print documentation.
  • Document all completed work in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Follow and promote safe behaviors and procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction on protection and control issues.
  • Respond to system problems during after-hours on-call rotations.
  • Provide top-level customer service to internal and external customers.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in PLC control, PLC troubleshooting, and PLC programming.
  • Strong electrical troubleshooting and maintenance skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs and HMIs.
  • Experience with AC and DC systems.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet strict deadlines.
  • Good writing and communication skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree in electrical engineering, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred.
  • 0-3 years of experience in a controls technician or similar role.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience in electromechanical or microprocessor protection relay installation and testing is desired.
  • Field experience commissioning and/or maintaining electrical equipment is desired.
  • Basic understanding of electrical protection and/or control circuitry is desired.
  • Familiarity with substation equipment is preferred.
  • Ability to read electrical blueprint/schematic drawings is desirable.

Work Environment

This position is based in Montgomery and involves working with protection and control systems within power substations. The role may require working in various field conditions and requires adherence to safety practices and procedures.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Montgomery, AL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00/hr.
