Sign-On Bonus: External candidates may be eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus, contingent upon acceptance of the offer and completion of a one-year work commitment. Bonus payout and eligibility are subject to company policy.

Work hours:

  • Full Time, 80 hours bi-weekly
  • Day Shift, Monday - Friday
  • No weekends or holidays.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • Associate's Degree Graduate of an approved technical, professional or vocational program or Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • 2 - 3 years Previous Pharmacy Tech experience (Required)
  • 3 - 4 years Outpatient Pharmacy Experience (Preferred)
  • National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) is required. Approved certification is through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PCTB) and ExCPT Certification by the National Healthcareer Association.
  • Must be registered with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician. Required

Job Overview:

The Certified Pharmacy Technician III plays an advanced role in supporting pharmacy operations, working closely with pharmacists to ensure the safe, accurate, and timely distribution of medications. This position builds on the foundational responsibilities of earlier technician levels, while taking on greater leadership and operational duties. Key responsibilities include: *Medication Dispensing: Assists in the preparation and dispensing of both hazardous and non-hazardous medications under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist, in compliance with all state and federal regulations. *Automation Oversight: Supports the maintenance and monitoring of automated medication distribution systems, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance with safety standards. *Patient Engagement: Proactively contacts patients to coordinate routine prescription fills and deliveries, promoting medication adherence and continuity of care. *Operational Support: Manages inventory, processes prescriptions, and handles administrative tasks such as insurance claims and record-keeping, while also serving as a resource and mentor to less experienced technicians.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Drug Fulfillment Responsible for drug fulfillment, including filling orders, packaging, and shipping medications. • Complete all pharmacy dispensing duties, including accurately and efficiently filling prescriptions. • Complete nonsterile compounding under the supervision of pharmacist. • Investigate Willow malfunctions and be able to enter ticket to potentially resolve the issue. • Be proficient in EPIC Willow
  • Pharmacy Phone Calls Be an active participant in the phone calls, including taking inbound and outbound calls from patients, physicians, insurance companies, and other third-party entities. Inbound and Outbound Call Management includes, but is not limited to: • Provide customer service at the highest level, maintaining quality patient care and meeting the highest satisfaction of our patients. • Schedule future prescription fills with the patient, ensuring there is an active prescription on the patient’s medication profile in Willow. The technician will also ask appropriate questions during the refill call and provide an offer for the patient to be counseled by a pharmacist. • Call the patient if a scheduled medication will have a delay in filling, whether from an inventory matter, insurance issue, or other delay. • Call manufacturer programs, copay programs, third-party or tertiary maximizer plans. • Call approved alternate contacts, if unable to reach a patient to schedule a refill. • Call patients’ local pharmacy for any insurance or medication review needs. • Call external companies, such as manufacturers of Pharmacy Automation Dispensing Systems, to resolve malfunctions or maintenance needs. • Review voicemail messages and IVR calls. • Triage clinical calls to a pharmacist.
  • Customer Service/ Communication and Compliance Demonstrates competency and compliance through audits and rounding visits. Observational checklists will be used to validate practices. This includes but is not limited to: • Provide friendly and professional outreach to patients and healthcare professionals. • Resolve patient concerns and escalate all clinical issues to the pharmacist, as needed. • Follow all policies and procedures of TriHealth Outpatient Pharmacies and TriHealth, Inc. • Accountable for compliance with all state and federal regulations including licensure, prescription drug monitoring regulations, as well as the ongoing monitoring and maintenance of regulations/requirements to ensure continued compliance. • Adhere to all HIPAA regulations to protect patient privacy. • Report errors, maintain documentation, and assist in developing action plans for problem areas. • Participate in TriHealth's Ambassador Program, which involves the training and onboarding of new team members. • Demonstrate TriHealth way, SERVE values, ALWAYS behaviors, and the 5 safety practices. • Works collaboratively with other TriHealth outpatient departments, which may include Hospice of Cincinnati or the Faculty Medical Center, to ensure timely and appropriate patient care.
  • Dispensing System, monitoring all work queues, which include but are not limited to charging, custom and pending refill approval queues. • Review patient charts in the electronic medical record to resolve refill requests, refill denials, patient assistance, payment issues, and other related matters. This includes reading Progress Notes, Telephone Notes, MyChart messages, and all other pertinent information related to pharmaceutical care. • Follow all pharmacy department policies and procedures for safe handling, preparation, and disposal of hazardous drugs. • Handle prescription transfers to and from outside pharmacies under direct supervision of pharmacist. • Address prescription adjudication issues, including but not limited to, calling insurance companies, prescribers’ offices, and/or patients. • Coordinate with the Responsible Pharmacist for daily task assignment(s), following the technician duty schedule. Exhibit flexibility to change daily assignment based on departmental coverage gaps. • Work collaboratively with pharmacists and technicians while being a resource to the dispensing pharmacist. • Complete all daily tasks by end of day, which may include cash drawer count down and accounting for any overages or shortages/ submitting forms to correct departments • Complete maintenance and monitoring of automated medication distribution systems. • Package shipments with the required items, including the prescription medication, appropriate handouts, drug monographs, and billing receipt. • Label packages appropriately, ensuring the patient’s prescription is being shipped to the correct delivery address. • Accurately ship or courier prescriptions to a patient’s requested delivery address, by confirming the preferred delivery address with every medication fill. • Follow shipping policies and procedures for TriHealth Pharmacy Solutions, including shipping to only approved states per the Board of Pharmacy. *Completes other assigned tasks as directed to support patient care and department/organization success
    Inventory Management Responsible for accurate inventory management by responsible ordering from the wholesaler, outdates, recalls, and returns. • Receive, unpack, and store incoming medications and supplies according to proper storage requirements. • Investigate inventory issues, including out of stock medications for prescription drugs on order for that day. • Assist with 340B Invoices (Pulling and submitting invoices to accounting) • Conduct regular inventory checks to identify and remove expired, damaged, or recalled medications • Order and restock medications and supplies to maintain optimal inventory levels while ensuring no critical stock outs of essential medications. • Process medication returns and transfers accurately through ABC and Willow. • Double count controlled substances when filling prescriptions and backcount the stock bottle to ensure accurate inventory. • Complete routine cycle counts to ensure accurate inventory within Willow.

Other Related Information:

  • Designated trainer for TriHealth Outpatient Pharmacies Technicians will be working with hazardous medications on a daily basis as a primary job duty.
  • Certified Technician III will be responsible for all core work responsibilities outlined in their job description, including, but not limited to, the work duties of an Outpatient Pharmacy Technician I and II.
