What You Will Do:
The successful candidate will be willing and able to:
- Examines eyes, using observation, instruments, and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose ocular diseases and other ocular abnormalities. These include conducting & documenting history, measuring refractive error, conducting visual & confrontational fields, pupil testing, ocular mobility testing, slit lamp examination, direct and indirect ophthalmoscopy, gonioscopy, tear function testing, perform fundoscopic examination, particularly for diabetic patients.
- Prescribes eyeglasses, evaluates contact lenses, and prescribe therapeutic procedures to correct or conserve vision.
- Interprets data from clinical exam, analyze test results and develop a treatment plan.
- Performs other related duties such as completing school forms, Department of Motor Vehicle, and other like documents.
- Partners with Operations to train the Clinic Staff to perform screening and other functions as appropriate.
- Work with other medical providers to see patients with acute or urgent ocular concerns, to the extent possible.
- Educates and counsels patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors.
- Maintain current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practices.
- Follow all safety procedures and report or resolve unsafe conditions to ensure an injury-free work environment.
- Use appropriate ergonomic measures to reduce risk of work-related injuries.
- Assure adherence to infection control procedures in the clinic, including bloodborne pathogen protocols.

Eligibility: Benefits are available to employees working 30+ hours per week, effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment.
Compensation Disclosure:$168,480.00 - $219,040.00 Annually
The compensation range listed reflects Elica’s good-faith estimate of the anticipated hiring range for this position in accordance with California pay transparency requirements. Final compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including relevant experience, education, certifications, skills, and qualification.
Language Skills (Preferred):
Bilingual or multilingual communication skills in English and Russian, Farsi, Pashto/Pushto, or Spanish are preferred to support the needs of the communities we serve, where more than 50% of patients report a primary language other than English.
Requirements
Meet and maintain all criteria for Physician Credentialing, including the following:
- Graduation from an accredited school of optometry, Doctor of Optometry degree.
- Valid Optometry license in good-standing in the state of California required.
- Glaucoma certification is strongly desired
- Active BLS training certificate.
- At least 1-2 years of experience working with underserved, low-income persons or homeless persons preferred.
- A strong commitment to serve medically underserved families.
Additional Requirements
- Must have a current and valid California driver’s license and the ability to provide proof of personal auto insurance on the vehicle driven during working hours.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
The work environment is characteristic of a dental clinic environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle or feel. The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
