Job Title: Medical Assistant

Job Description

The Medical Assistant supports a high-volume retina clinic by scribing for multiple physicians, accurately documenting patient encounters in an EMR system, and performing patient workups. This role plays a key part in delivering efficient, high-quality patient care by ensuring precise medical documentation and clear communication of physician treatment plans to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Document physician-patient encounters in the electronic medical record (EMR) system in real time with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Serve as a medical scribe for multiple physicians, capturing histories, exam findings, assessments, and treatment plans during each visit.
  • Perform patient workups after doctor visits, following established clinical protocols and physician directions.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with patients to explain the documented plan and next steps as directed by the physician.
  • Handle a high volume of patient interactions each day in an extremely fast-paced retina clinic environment.
  • Apply knowledge of medical terminology, ophthalmology, and medical documentation standards to ensure complete and compliant records.
  • Provide patient care support as needed, maintaining a professional and compassionate demeanor at all times.
  • Enter data efficiently and accurately, including typing and updating patient information in the EMR.
  • Collaborate with a team of clinic staff to support multiple physicians and ensure smooth patient flow throughout the day.
  • Participate in training and ongoing education to maintain and enhance clinical and documentation skills.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in a life science field.
  • Experience with patient care in a medical or healthcare environment.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and medical documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology
  • Fast and accurate typing and data entry skills.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively in a high-volume clinical environment.
  • Capacity to thrive in an extremely fast-paced setting, supporting 80–100 patients per day.
  • Strong communication skills to relay physician treatment plans clearly to patients.

Work Environment

  • This is a full-time, on-site role in a high-volume Ophthalmology clinic operating Monday through Friday.
  • The dress code requires navy blue scrubs. Nails must be kept short and well groomed, and hair must be tied back to maintain a professional, safe, and hygienic clinical appearance.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Beaumont, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.50/hr.
