Job Title: Production Operator
Job Description

As a Production Operator, you play a hands-on role in maintaining a historic, mill-style textile operation. You will learn the craft directly from senior operators who will guide you through traditional processes and modern production needs.

Responsibilities

  • Operate shearing, rolling, cutting, and knitting/sewing machines used to produce yarn and wool textiles.
  • Set up equipment, monitor performance, and make routine adjustments to maintain consistent material flow.
  • Use strong mechanical ability to perform minor troubleshooting and resolve common machine issues independently.
  • Recognize major mechanical concerns quickly and escalate them to senior operators or leadership to prevent downtime.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace and follow safety practices suited to a busy, older-mill environment.
  • Work closely with experienced team members, learning established textile methods and contributing to a smooth production process.
Essential Skills
  • Comfortable working with industrial machinery (shearing, rolling, cutting, knitting/sewing).
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and make small adjustments independently.
  • Understands how to identify unusual sounds, tension issues, jams, or alignment problems.
  • Stays calm and resourceful when equipment needs attention.
  • Knows when an issue is minor versus when it must be escalated.
  • Can think through mechanical problems logically rather than relying on guesswork.
  • Monitors machine performance, material flow, and product quality.
  • Catches defects early and adjusts settings to maintain consistency.
  • Keeps accurate awareness of machine speed, tension, and output.
  • Able to stand for long periods in a mill-style environment.
  • Comfortable lifting, moving, or positioning materials as needed.
  • Works safely around older equipment and moving parts.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Open to hands-on training from senior operators on traditional textile processes.
  • Takes feedback well and grows into independent responsibility.
  • Communicates machine issues clearly to senior operators.
  • Works well in a small, collaborative production team.
  • Understands the importance of escalating major mechanical concerns immediately.
  • Follows safety protocols in an older building with legacy equipment.
  • Shows up consistently and maintains a clean, organized workspace.
  • Takes pride in producing high-quality textile products.
  • Any farming, mechanic, or automotive experience would translate well in this role.

Work Environment

The work environment is in an older mill-style building with older machinery. You will be part of a family-owned company that emphasizes teamwork and safety. The role involves working Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Canton, MA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
