ABOUT THE POSITION

The Vallejo Flood and Wastewater District is seeking to fill an Operator I/II position within our Operations Department for a future vacancy. This role is essential to protecting public health and the environment, and we are looking for a dependable, motivated individual who is ready to contribute to the daily operation of critical infrastructure.

The Operator I/II is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining treatment and collection equipment at the plant. Working under the general supervision of the Shift Supervisor, this position performs a full range of operational duties, including monitoring system performance, adjusting controls, identifying and troubleshooting equipment issues, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and process requirements. The role requires sound judgment, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to respond effectively to changing plant conditions.

This Operator I classification represents a fully capable Operator who performs a broad range of operational tasks with increasing responsibility and technical depth.

The Operator II classification is distinguished by its ability to independently perform the full scope of plant operations, address more complex operational challenges, and apply advanced knowledge of treatment processes and equipment. Placement within the series depends on demonstrated experience, competency, and qualifications.

ABOUT THE DISTRICT

The Vallejo Flood and Wastewater District (the District) is an independent special district established by the State of California in 1952 to manage wastewater collection and treatment and protect the Vallejo community from flooding. Operating independently of the City of Vallejo, the District’s dedicated team enhances the city’s sanitary sewer and storm drain systems, delivering high-quality service to the community.

Governance is provided by an eight-member Board of Trustees, composed of the seven Vallejo City Council members and one at-large member appointed by the Solano County Board of Supervisors. With 98 full-time equivalent employees and an annual operating budget of approximately $47 million, the District is committed to safeguarding public health, safety, and the environment through reliable wastewater and flood control services.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER

If you are a successful candidate for this position, you will be asked to take an Oath or Affirmation of Allegiance for Public Employees. All Vallejo Flood and Wastewater

District employees are, by state and federal law, Disaster Service Workers. The roles and responsibilities for Disaster Service Workers are authorized by the California Emergency Services Act and are defined in the California Labor Code. In the event of a declaration of emergency, any employee may be assigned to perform activities that promote the protection of public health and safety or the preservation of lives and property. The assignment may require service at locations, times, and under conditions that are significantly different from normal work assignments and may continue into the recovery phase of the emergency. If a “Local Emergency” is declared during the employee’s shift, employees will be expected to remain at work to respond to the community's emergency needs. If a “Local Emergency” is declared outside of the employee’s shift, employees must make every effort to contact their direct supervisor or department head to obtain reporting instructions as a Disaster Service Worker.
