Job Title: Operations Manager – Electrical Projects

Job Description

The Operations Manager oversees electrical projects from initial concept through final closeout, combining hands-on field knowledge with office-based project management. This role suits an experienced electrician or field professional who is ready to transition into a predominantly office-based position while still staying closely connected to field operations. The Operations Manager leads a small team, manages estimating and job costing, coordinates directly with clients and crews, and ensures projects are delivered safely, on time, and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Own electrical projects end-to-end from pre-construction through closeout, ensuring quality, safety, and client satisfaction.
  • Build projects from scratch, including estimating, planning, scheduling, execution oversight, and client reporting.
  • Perform detailed estimating and job costing to support accurate proposals and profitable project delivery.
  • Take field measurements when drawings are not available to support accurate planning and installation.
  • Coordinate directly with clients to clarify scope, manage expectations, and provide regular project updates.
  • Collaborate with field crews to plan labor, sequence work, and resolve issues that arise during construction.
  • Step into the field when needed to support crews, verify site conditions, and help keep projects on track.
  • Manage and lead a team of approximately six electricians and field staff, providing direction, support, and performance oversight.
  • Apply a strong understanding of electrical scopes, labor planning, and production to optimize project outcomes.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including plans, schedules, and progress reports.
  • Support plan design and review to ensure constructability and alignment with project requirements.
  • Demonstrate accountability for all aspects of assigned projects in a small-company, high-ownership environment.

Essential Skills

  • Electrical experience with approximately 10+ years of experience in the field at a journeyman or lead electrician level.
  • Proven experience in electrical construction, including strong understanding of electrical scopes and installations.
  • Hands-on experience that supports accurate field measurement, troubleshooting, and practical decision-making.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage or lead crews, including supervision of electricians and field staff.
  • Experience with project management activities such as planning, scheduling, and overseeing project execution.
  • Ability to perform estimating and job costing for electrical projects.
  • Strong labor planning and production management skills to optimize crew efficiency and project timelines.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to interface confidently with both clients and field crews.
  • Comfort working in a small-company environment with high accountability and broad responsibilities.
  • Comfort transitioning from primarily field-based work to a predominantly office-based operations and project management role.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience as an estimator or lead electrician with estimating responsibilities is a strong plus.
  • Experience in operations management or operational oversight in an electrical or construction setting.
  • Familiarity with plan design and interpreting drawings for electrical projects.
  • OSHA training or certification is preferred for candidates coming from the field, with support available for additional training as needed.
  • No college degree required for this role.
  • No formal professional certifications required, though relevant credentials are welcomed.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in documentation, planning, and reporting.
  • Ability to balance office responsibilities with occasional field involvement as project needs dictate.

Work Environment

Typical work hours are approximately 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with overtime expected as needed in line with a salaried position. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $60.00/hr.
