JOB TITLE: Off Campus Student Life Student Intern
LOCATION(S):St. Paul
PAY RATE: $16.50/hour
HOURS: 4-12/week
Job Summary:
At the University of St. Thomas, undergraduate students have diverse living experiences that shape how they engage with campus.Somefirst- and second-year students live at home and commute to campus as they begin their college journey, while many third-year students and beyond live off-campus in neighborhoods surrounding the St. Paul campus. These student populations have distinct needs and benefit from intentional outreach, connection, and education to support their success and sense of belonging.
Off-Campus Student Life (OCSL) interns support students across these living experiences, with a strong emphasis on engaging first- and second-year commuting students as they navigate their early college years. Commuter studentsmayfacechallengesrelated to building community, accessing campus resources, and balancing academic, family, and work responsibilities. OCSL interns help bridge these gaps by creating welcoming entry points to campus life through outreach, programming, and relationship-building.
In addition, OCSL interns support upper-division students who live off-campus in nearby neighborhoods. These “neighborhood students” have unique needs related to independent living, understanding city and rental laws, and beingresponsiblecommunitymembers. Internsassistwith educational initiatives and outreach that build awareness of neighborhood expectations while fostering positive relationships between students and the surrounding community.
Many students served by Off-Campus Student Life are first-generation college students. OCSL interns contribute to inclusive, student-centered programming and resources that support students’ academic success, personal growth, and engagement throughout their time at St. Thomas. Off-Campus Student Lifeoperateswithin the Dean of Students Office at the University of St. Thomas.
Responsibilities for Off Campus Student Life Student Intern:
Commit to working during the fall and spring semesters, with no hours during J-term.
Develop one new educational initiative per semester based on student needs.
Support first-generation students by offering one-on-one meetings to help them navigate college life.
Engage with students through in-person interactions and digital platforms, including social media and TommieLink.
Serve as a resource and point of contact between OCSL and both off-campus and first-generation students.
Manage and utilize OCSL and first-gen social media channels to anticipate and respond to student inquiries.
Collaborate with the OCSL student team to maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming OCSL lounge.

ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for student employment, St. Thomas students must be degree seeking at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels.
