Provides high-quality nursing instruction in the Associate in Applied Science – Nursing (ADN), LPN to ADN, and Practical Nursing (PN) programs. Responsibilities include teaching in classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings while evaluating student learning and progression. Faculty utilize evidence-based teaching strategies, including simulation and applied clinical learning, to support student retention, completion, and licensure readiness. Instruction may occur in face-to-face, hybrid, or online formats and may include evening or weekend assignments. Faculty are expected to maintain clinical competency and participate in course coordination, curriculum improvement, and program evaluation activities. Additional responsibilities include maintaining office hours, participating in department and college committees, and representing the Nursing Program in community and professional settings. Full-time faculty support institutional initiatives related to student success, diversity, and professional development.
Position starts with Fall 2026 semester. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Student Success, Retention, and Completion- Promote student retention, progression, and program completion through effective teaching, advising, and early intervention strategies.
- Identify students who may be at academic risk and collaborate with program leadership and student services to provide timely support and remediation.
- Support student preparation for licensure through effective instructional practices, exam readiness strategies, and clinical reasoning development.
- Utilize simulation-based learning activities to strengthen student understanding, reinforce clinical judgment, and support remediation efforts.
- Participate in structured remediation strategies that may include simulation, case-based learning, and targeted skill development to improve student success and retention.
- Foster a learning environment that promotes resilience, accountability, and professional growth.
Instruction and Clinical Education
- Provide high-quality instruction in classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical learning environments.
- Deliver relevant, current, and evidence-based nursing content aligned with healthcare practice standards and workforce expectations.
- Facilitate learning experiences that promote clinical judgment, patient safety, and professional nursing competencies.
- Utilize diverse instructional strategies including discussion, demonstration, case studies, simulation scenarios, and applied clinical learning experiences.
- Adapt teaching strategies to address varying levels of student preparation and diverse learning styles.
Simulation-Based Learning and Clinical Readiness- Integrate simulation activities that support development of clinical reasoning, patient safety awareness, and decision-making skills.
- Utilize simulation scenarios and structured debriefing techniques to reinforce course concepts and promote reflective learning.
- Support the use of simulation as a remediation tool for students requiring additional support in clinical reasoning, skill development, or exam readiness.
- Collaborate with program faculty and simulation staff to coordinate simulation activities aligned with course and program outcomes.
Student Learning and Assessment- Assess student learning using multiple evaluation methods such as exams, quizzes, written assignments, presentations, clinical evaluations, and simulation-based assessments.
- Develop and administer assessments aligned with course outcomes and program learning objectives.
- Use assessment data to inform instructional improvements and support student progression and success.
- Provide constructive feedback and remediation strategies to support student learning and licensure readiness.
Curriculum and Program Participation- Participate in department, academic program, and curriculum development activities.
- Contribute to curriculum review and improvement efforts to ensure alignment with program outcomes, accreditation standards, and evolving healthcare practice expectations.
- Develop and maintain course outlines and syllabi aligned with approved program curriculum.
- Participate in program planning and continuous improvement initiatives that support completion, licensure success, and workforce alignment.
Teaching Effectiveness- Design and deliver instruction that emphasizes critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and problem-solving.
- Integrate instructional technologies and learning management systems to support in-person, hybrid, and online learning environments.
- Promote active learning through discussions, simulations, case studies, debriefings, and collaborative activities.
- Maintain high expectations for students while supporting their development as competent and compassionate healthcare professionals.
Student Advising and Support- Advise students on curriculum pathways, academic progression, employment opportunities, and professional goals in nursing.
- Maintain accessibility to students through scheduled office hours and other communication methods.
- Encourage student engagement, self-confidence, and professional identity development.

Required
- Master of Science in Nursing degree (MSN)
- Unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse
- Michigan Nursing License (or be eligible for within 30 days of employment)
- Knowledge and current clinical expertise in a range of acute care areas
- Two years recent clinical experience in medical/surgical nursing
- Two years nursing teaching experience including clinical and classroom instruction in a community college preferred.
- Must have strong knowledge in pathophysiology and medical-surgical nursing
- Utilize a variety of teaching methodologies, including online strategies
- Experience with electronic health records
- Experience and/or interest in high-fidelity simulation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Skilled in the use of email and electronic calendars
- Background knowledge of classroom and student assessment
- Excellent analysis and communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to work in a team environment as well as a commitment to diversity, continuous improvement and the college’s philosophy
- Use of technology to support learning and other innovative teaching strategies

- Specialty nursing certification
- Experience with simulation utilizing high-fidelity nursing education
