Nursing Instructor

Under the supervision of the Director of Health Sciences, the Nursing Instructor will teach students according to the established policies and procedures to provide competent and effective classroom and laboratory instruction at varied times and places due to student demand. Additionally, the instructor will closely supervise and guide the students in the classroom, college skills lab, simulation activities and/or in the controlled clinical setting (hospitals, health care facility) and objectively evaluate student progress.

1. Provide excellent classroom, clinical, and laboratory instruction in the area of credentialed expertise.

2. Evaluate the progress of students in the classroom, clinical and laboratory setting, according to institutional and program requirements.

3. Collect, maintain, and submit accurate classroom, clinical, and laboratory records including grades, attendance rosters, absences, withdrawal, and/or class drop information to appropriate offices.

4. Provide academic and career advice to students and promote student leadership and enrichment experiences.

5. Maintain or increase competency in the chosen specialty by seeking new knowledge, improving teaching skills, and updating professional competencies and licensure.

6. Provide classroom, lab, and clinical supervision at varied times and places and in varied formats based on student demand; day, evening, or weekend, at any approved clinical site. This may include traditional, hybrid or web format at ESCC’s main campuses and partnering dual enrollment sites.

7. Teach face to face courses, during the scheduled meeting times in areas of Nursing, Certificated Nursing Assistant and Medication Assistant.

8. Prepare instructional materials, deliver instruction, and evaluate and record student progress in relation to achieving the objectives and learning outcomes of the course.

9. Adhere to times scheduled for class sessions.

10. Prepare, maintain, and submit accurate student and class records in accordance with College policies and procedures.

11. Work cooperatively with others to plan and accomplish goals of the ESCC.

12. Assign outside learning experiences to students that reinforce classroom instruction.

13. Develop a positive relationship with co-workers, students, and clinical sites.

14. Evaluate inventory of instructional materials and equipment and advise the Nursing Program Coordinator and college administration on related needs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.



  • Master’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution is required.

Or the ability to earn a master’s degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution by Summer 2026.

  • Current unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alabama is required.

  • Three years’ experience in clinical practice or nursing education program is required.

  • Prior experience teaching is preferred.

SALARY:

Salary Schedule D1 $46,590 - $94,363 (9-month salary) $14,384 - $29,184 (3-month Summer salary), based upon the Alabama Community College System Salary Schedule to be?determined by the applicant’s education and years of applicable experience. Applicant acknowledges that if selected for the position?that applicant’s placement on the applicable salary schedule will be dependent upon the verified information provided.
