Directly supervises one or morecolleagues;assistsmanager with managerial responsibilities including scheduling, interviewing, hiring,coachingand counseling,evaluations; has multiple shift responsibilities.The RN Supervisor mayalsowork as a RN whoprovides and directs safe,effectiveand culturally competent care forhigh risk, critically acute patients with actual or potential life-threatening conditions.Through evidence-based practice, the RNutilizescritical thinking to assess, plan,implementand evaluate outcome-based care of patients.Supervises andcoordinatescare provided to patients by the LPN, Patient CareAssistantsand other nursing team members.Facilitates communication with physicians,patientand family, otherdepartmentsand/or team members. Adheres toMercyOne'sperformance expectations and performs all defined services and other related dutiesin accordance withthe Mission,Visionand Values ofMercyOne.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develops andmaintainsdepartmental staffing plan for all departments supervised, detailingappropriate employeeclassifications and qualifications consistent with the department's operational plan, projected volumes, patient/acuityand other relevant indicators.
Participates in human resource planning providing recommendations for staffing, proactiverecruitmentand long-term needs. Assures compliance with staffing plan.
Manages daily unit/department operations, unit/department personnel, and interdepartmental activities.
Provides orientation/education for staff and students to ensure assigned patients havea positive care experience.
Monitors and reviews staff performance, completes annual performance appraisals, and handles disciplinary action when warranted.
Directs staff in the delivery of safe and effective patient care.
Administers nursing care to patients; includes assessment, planning,implementingand evaluating the patient's care plan in coordination with the physician.
Provides input on interviewing andhiring ofpersonnel for the department.
Completes requisitions as needed for staff replacements, and other Workday maintenance tasks.
Maintains knowledge of documentation requirements needed for employees' files and patients' records.
Administers all policies and procedures that guide and support the assigned services. These include, but are not limited to, JC requirements, safety, federal and state regulations, regulatory standards,etc
Serves as a resource, mentor, and role model in delivering patient care using a team approach.
Facilitates communication between patient/family,physiciansand other caregivers to achieve consensus for the plan of care.Consultswith the Ethics Committee asappropriate.
Understandsemployee competency documentation requirements.
Leads and promotes evidence-based practice and research among unit leaders and staff.
Ensuresevidence-based practices are in place.
Leads quality improvement activities including performance improvement processes tofacilitateclinical practice changes.
Promotes best practice implementation on unit.
Plans unit and nursing resourceutilizationbased on established admission,dischargeand transfer criteria,initiatingappropriate interventionand collaboration tooptimizepatient care and unit/department operations.
Identifiesand communicates staff needs for continuing education to the Manager.
Serves as a resource or “Super User” for documentation in the electronic medical record.
Leads orparticipatesin interdisciplinary patient rounds and care conferences, management rounding to patients and staff, and Rounding to Influence (Safety First).
Reviewstimecards.
Leads or delegates daily huddles andmaintainshuddle boards.
Assistsnursing and interdisciplinary team in patient/family education and discharge planning.
Assumes 24-hour accountability during periods when the manager is on vacation or leave of absence.
Adheres to all safety, infection control and colleague health policies and procedures.
Maintains a safe working environment and practices safe working habits.
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and proceduresin order toensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
