In Christ, The Next Generation Search Team Jess Danielson (Chair) Kristin Boes Ruby Goodman Nickie Soller Hunter VanderWall 3As the space became less suitable for worship, it became clear a more permanent location was needed. That October, the Classis formed a steering committee to guide the new congregation. A seminary student was asked to survey the area, leading to the decision to establish the church at its current site between Scottville and Ludington. Pastor Ralph Pronk was called to serve in May 1968. Groundbreaking for the building followed in October, and by December, Mason County Reformed Church was officially organized as a congregation of the Reformed Church in America. A nearby home was purchased as the parsonage, further affirming God’s provision. Since then, the church has seen continued growth, with three building additions to meet expanding needs. We celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2016 and remain grateful for God’s faithfulness as we look ahead. In June 1966, letters were sent to families in Mason County interested in forming a Reformed Church. Three families responded, and a picnic two weeks later drew about 30 people. From that gathering, the Muskegon Classis launched a seven-week “trial of worship,” beginning August 7, with services held in the basement of the State Savings Bank in Scottville. 4OUR CHURCH HISTORY OUR CHURCH HISTORYThe main building includes: Sanctuary/Auditorium Downstairs Middle School/High School fellowship room with storage, kitchen, and restrooms/showers Offices for the staff Hospitality Room used for meetings and small group fellowship An All-Purpose room used for congregational gatherings and events A ministry house is located next to the church on U.S. 10, which is used as respite for visiting pastors. It emphasizes the sovereignty of God, the authority of Scripture, and salvation through grace alone, by faith alone, in Christ alone. The RCA upholds the centrality of Jesus Christ in all aspects of life and ministry, while also valuing the importance of community, worship, and discipleship. The denomination believes in the sacraments of baptism and the Lord's Supper as means of grace, and it is committed to social justice, service, and living out the teachings of the Bible in everyday life. CHURCH AFFILIATION Mason County Reformed Church is a part of the Northern Michigan Classis within the RCA. We will soon be joining the Great Lakes City Classis. This Classis has an Affinity and Assurance statement that upholds the traditional view of marriage between a man and a woman. Pastors are expected to live within the boundaries of this statement. MCRC staff should also align with this theological position as they teach and serve. WHAT MAKES OUR CHURCH UNIQUE? Over the past year, our Leadership team and staff went through the Church Unique process with a trained facilitator. MCRC is a small-town community of loyal and generous people, many of whom have deep roots in the community. Recently, MCRC has experienced a growth in new people who don’t have a church connection. We are an authentic, multi-generational, community-minded body of believers that are growing and doing life together. 9 OUR FINANCIAL STATISTICSMCRC MINISTRIES & TEAMS MCRC MINISTRIES & TEAMS Parents and Tots GEMS Cadets Kids Hope UpStreet Children’s Ministry Youth Ministries - Middle & High School Dominican Republic Outreach Hand2Hand Ministries Prayer & Quilt Ministries Women's Ministries Library Ladies Bible Study Fellowship Men’s Bible Study Fellowship Life Groups Big Kids Recess Monthly Meals After Service Outdoor Summer Services Ministry HouseLeadership Team Hospitality Team Worship Team Technology Team Decorating Team Property Team Security Team Assimilation & Fellowship Team 1 0 MINISTRIES TEAMS COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS (BUILDING USE) AA Al Anon Alateen Bee Keeper’s Association Paws With A Cause Conservation District Christmas ShoppePastor Mike Metten Lead Pastor Chris Duran Office Manager Chris Bentz Community Life Coordinator Mark Swanson Director of Music & Technology Sara Ewing Business Manager 1 1STAFF MCRC Meet the people that keep MCRC running smoothly: The Next Generation Director position is currently vacant.Caryn Buter Children’s Ministry Director with special needs, career technical education, and early middle college.
