Senior Engineer, Unified Communications / Microsoft 365

Location: Remote but must be local to Los Angeles, San Francisco, or Orange County, California

Responsibilities:

  • Architect, implement, and support enterprise Unified Communications solutions with a focus on Microsoft 365 and Exchange Online/Hybrid
  • Serve as subject matter expert for email architecture, including routing, mail flow, authentication, deliverability, and message hygiene
  • Administer and support email security platforms such as Proofpoint (DLP, encryption, TAP, routing, policy management)
  • Maintain and support Metadact for metadata scrubbing, compliance, and secure content handling
  • Manage the complete email lifecycle, including DNS, SMTP relays, connectors, transport rules, and message tracking
  • Oversee hybrid Exchange configurations, coexistence, connectors, and migration activities
  • Provide Tier 3/4 escalation support for complex messaging and UC issues
  • Partner with security, infrastructure, and application teams to ensure secure, resilient, and high-performing services
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, architecture diagrams, and operational runbooks
  • Contribute to UC strategy, roadmap development, and lifecycle management initiatives
  • Participate in audits, risk assessments, and policy development related to messaging and collaboration platforms

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of experience in Unified Communications, Messaging, or Microsoft 365 engineering roles
  • Expert-level knowledge of Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, and hybrid Exchange architectures
  • Hands-on experience with Proofpoint email security solutions
  • Working proficiency with Metadact or similar metadata-scrubbing tools
  • Deep understanding of the full email lifecycle, including DNS, SMTP, SPF/DKIM/DMARC, TLS, and routing topologies
  • Strong experience diagnosing and resolving complex UC and messaging issues across hybrid environments
  • Knowledge of identity and security technologies, including Azure AD, OAuth, conditional access, and MFA
  • Experience using PowerShell or similar scripting tools for automation and administration
  • Experience with telephony/VoIP platforms such as Microsoft Teams Phone, Cisco, Avaya, or similar
  • Working knowledge of SharePoint Online, including permissions, site architecture, and administration
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • Relevant certifications preferred: Microsoft 365 Certified Messaging Administrator, MS-100/MS-203, MCSE, Proofpoint Certified Specialist, or other UC/security certifications
  • Stable resume with minimal contract/temporary experience
  • Must include minimum salary expectation in resume
