Job Description: Network Engineer
Overview
The Network Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, support, and optimization of enterprise LAN, WAN, and wireless network infrastructure. The role requires advanced troubleshooting skills, ownership of critical incidents, SLA adherence, and support for multi‑geographical environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide L3 support for enterprise LAN, WAN, and wireless networks, including routers, switches, access points (APs), and wireless LAN controllers (WLCs).
- Configure, manage, and optimize network infrastructure to ensure high availability, stability, and performance aligned with business objectives.
- Handle network incidents, service requests, and escalations.
- Perform thorough root cause analysis (RCA) and implement permanent fixes.
- Monitor network performance and proactively troubleshoot issues.
- Define network processes and ensure adherence to operational standards.
- Lead and manage network installations, configurations, migrations, and upgrades.
- Coordinate with vendors for testing, evaluation, and deployment of network enhancements.
- Ensure maximum uptime and compliance with SLA commitments.
- Support global / multi‑geo network environments.
- Build and maintain test labs / POC environments.
- Continuously improve customer and employee satisfaction through service excellence.
- Recommend and implement new technologies and design improvements.
- Track and maintain SLA performance across the team.
- Conduct periodic testing, audits, and process reviews.
- Identify skill gaps and plan training and knowledge enhancement activities.
Technical Requirements
Networking & Switching
- Strong hands-on experience with Cisco L2 & L3 switches:
- C2960, C3560, C3850, C9200, C9300, C9500
- Experience with Cisco Nexus switches:
- 2K, 5K, 7K, 9K
- Expert knowledge of Cisco IOS, IOS‑XE, and NX‑OS
- Exposure to advanced switching concepts (preferred)
Routing & Security
- Expert-level experience with BGP, OSPF, and EIGRP
- Hands-on experience with Cisco ASA (5505, 5515) and Firepower (FPR – all models)
- Strong expertise in IPSec VPNs (Site‑to‑Site and Remote Access)
Wireless & SD‑WAN
- In-depth understanding of Cisco Wireless (APs & WLC)
- Strong experience with Meraki Wireless
- Experience with Aruba or Extreme Wireless (preferred)
- Knowledge of SD‑WAN (Silver Peak)
Tools & Load Balancing
- Experience with network monitoring tools such as:
- SolarWinds, HP NNMi, Splunk, eHealth
- Experience with application load balancers:
- F5 BIG‑IP (LTM/GTM) or Citrix NetScaler
Soft Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong documentation abilities
- Proven customer-facing and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments
- High level of ownership and adaptability
- Ability to align with and drive HCL values and methodologies
Additional Skills (Preferred)
- Exposure to SDN environments
- Experience with AWS or Azure networking
Experience Requirements
- Total Experience: 8+ years
- Relevant Experience: Minimum 6+ years in managing medium to large enterprise networks
Certifications (Preferred)
- CCNP
- CCIE
- Aruba Wireless Certification
A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance-based bonuses subject to HCL policies.
