Job Description

Position Overview:

Every member of the Team & Family at KIPP KC plays a critical role in ensuring our students are on the path toward college, career, and beyond. Our educators are passionate advocates for our students and families, working tirelessly to connect them with access to opportunity for lives of power and choice.

As a Multilingual / ELL Teacher, you will provide high-quality language instruction and support for multilingual learners, ensuring equitable access to rigorous academic content. You will develop students’ English language proficiency across listening, speaking, reading, and writing while honoring and leveraging their home languages and cultural identities. You are dedicated to constant learning and proactively provide academic and cultural support to your school and team.

Key Responsibilities: 

Instructional Delivery and Language Development

  • Deliver targeted English language development (ELD) instruction aligned to WIDA standards and grade-level content.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the varying language proficiency levels of multilingual learners.

  • Collaborate with general education teachers to plan and implement scaffolds that support access to core content.

  • Use data (ACCESS scores, formative assessments, classroom performance) to inform instruction and group students effectively.

  • Support students’ development in all four domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

  • Incorporate culturally responsive practices that affirm students’ identities and experiences.

Assessment and Compliance

  • Administer and support state-required English language proficiency assessments.

  • Monitor and track student progress toward English language proficiency goals.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of student language services and progress.

  • Ensure compliance with district, state, and federal requirements for multilingual learners.

Collaboration and Support

  • Partner with general education teachers to provide co-teaching, push-in, and/or pull-out support models.

  • Provide guidance to staff on best practices for supporting multilingual learners in the classroom.

  • Collaborate with families to support student learning and language development at home.

  • Participate in MTSS/RTI processes for multilingual learners as needed.

Academic and Cultural Support

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with students and families.

  • Create an inclusive classroom environment where all students feel safe, seen, heard, and valued.

  • Participate in school-wide duties such as arrival, lunch, and dismissal.

  • Attend and contribute to staff meetings, professional development, and family engagement events.

  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and language development.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Valid Missouri Teaching License with ESOL/ELL certification (or ability to obtain)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of second language acquisition and instructional strategies for multilingual learners

  • Commitment to educational equity and serving diverse communities

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills

  • Bilingual proficiency preferred but not required

  • Satisfactory outcome of a background check

Applicants currently pursuing certification may apply before certification is received. All certifications must be acquired and on file with KIPP KC before the end of the first year of employment.

Salary is based on years of experience, educational background, and level of expertise.
