Department Overview
Second Harvest created the Health & Hunger Task Force in 2016 to identify opportunities for the food bank and healthcare organizations to affect the health of Central Floridians facing hunger collaboratively and measurably by using food is medicine. Since then, Second Harvest has developed a spectrum of care focused on policies, systems, and environments supporting neighbors experiencing diet-related chronic illness. Health and Hunger provide nutrition education in the community, increase neighbor access to nutrient dense foods through a nutritious pantry network, evaluates and ranks the food available to partner pantries and provides education and technical support for food insecurity screening with health care partners.
