Job Description

This role is responsible for laying out and welding structural steel to build high‑quality metal structures. You will use MIG and flux-core welding techniques, interpret blueprints, and operate shop equipment to manufacture products according to specifications while maintaining a safe and organized work area.

Responsibilities

  • Lay out and weld structural steel components using MIG and flux-core welding processes to build metal structures according to print.
  • Weld and cut black carbon and galvanized steel in accordance with project requirements and quality standards.
  • Read, interpret, and work from schematics, blueprints, and weld symbols with a high level of proficiency.
  • Use measuring tools, including tape measures down to 1/32 inch, to verify dimensions and ensure accuracy.
  • Operate hand tools, grinders, and basic shop machinery safely and effectively, and show willingness to learn additional equipment as needed.
  • Perform mechanical assembly and fabrication tasks related to structural steel and stainless-steel components.
  • Ensure all products are manufactured to print and meet established quality and weld standards, particularly for vertical/uphill and column welds.
  • Maintain a neat, clean, and organized work area in line with 6S standards and goals.
  • Follow and comply with all safety requirements, procedures, and guidelines at all times.
  • Operate vehicles, mechanical devices, or equipment as required for production activities.
  • Perform basic math calculations, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing measurements in pounds, feet, and inches.
  • Use computer systems in a Windows environment for basic navigation, data entry, saving, and printing as required by production processes.
  • Assist with training and mentoring new welders on welding techniques, blueprint reading, and shop practices.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of recent welding experience.
  • Strong background in MIG welding and flux-core welding, with a focus on vertical/uphill and column welds.
  • Ability to pass 3G/4G MIG welding tests.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting welding blueprints and weld symbols; ability to pass a blueprint reading test.
  • Ability to read a tape measure accurately down to 1/32 inch.
  • Ability to weld and cut black carbon and galvanized steel.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics and basic blueprints.
  • Ability to perform basic math functions, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with imperial measurements.
  • Experience with fitting and fabrication of structural steel components.
  • Ability to operate hand tools, grinders, and basic shop machinery safely.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without restrictions.
  • Basic computer proficiency in a Windows environment, including navigating screens, entering data, saving, and printing.
  • High school diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with TIG welding, including stainless steel, is a strong plus.
  • Experience in mechanical assembly and general fabrication work.
  • Familiarity with 6S or similar workplace organization and efficiency practices.
  • Ability and willingness to train and support new welders on the team.
  • Two-year welding certification is a plus but not required for the role.

Work Environment

This position operates in a non-climate-controlled production facility alongside approximately 80 other employees. You will work on a first-shift schedule from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The role involves working around welding equipment, hand tools, grinders, and basic shop machinery, as well as handling steel materials and components. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and adherence to 6S principles while supporting collaboration with a larger team of welders and fabricators.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dallas, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
