Metals Machinist Technician

MANTECH seeks a motivated, career customer-oriented Metals Machinist Technician to join our team in Panama City, FL. This is an onsite position.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Fabrication, repair, and modification of aerospace weapon system / LCAC and ground support equipment components using advanced metalworking techniques.

  • Set up and operate lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other precision machine tools.

  • Perform Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) on ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

  • Conduct inspections of parts for defects using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.

  • Interpret blueprints, technical orders, and engineering dispositions / drawings to determine manufacturing requirements.

  • Perform heat treatment processes including annealing, tempering, and case hardening.

  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and technical standards during all fabrication and welding activities.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance and production records in support of quality control.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • 4+ years of experience in metals technology, precision machining, or welding.

  • Proficient in reading technical drawings and using measurement tools.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of metal types and fabrication processes.

  • Familiarity with military or aerospace maintenance standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of a formal military or vocational training program in metals technology (e.g., USAF 2A7X1 or equivalent).

  • Experience with aerospace-grade metals and alloys to include aluminum.

  • Certification in welding processes (AWS, ASME, or equivalent).

  • Experience with CNC machining and CAD/CAM systems.

  • Prior support to Department of War aircraft maintenance operations.

Clearance Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship required and an active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain an Interim Secret before starting

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position while operating machining equipment.

  • Must be able to move heavy materials (up to 50 lbs) and operate machinery for extended periods.

  • Frequently communicates with team members and supervisors and must be able to exchange accurate information.
