About the Opportunity

Medix has partnered with a premier pre-clinical research organization to find a skilled, detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT). This role is a fantastic stepping stone for an ambitious lab professional looking to deepen their expertise in Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and pre-clinical study design.

This laboratory processes and analyzes animal/veterinary specimens rather than human samples. Candidates must be fully comfortable working within a pre-clinical, animal-research research environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Advanced Sample Processing & Analysis

  • Determine the acceptability of incoming blood, urine, cerebrospinal fluid, and other specimens according to strict established criteria.
  • Perform advanced sample processing in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and/or specific sponsor study requirements.
  • Execute basic microbiological setups and testing of samples.

Instrumentation & Quality Control

  • Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot automated laboratory instrumentation, including chemistry, hematology, coagulation, and urine analyzers.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, quality control (QC) submissions, and equipment mapping qualifications (refrigerators/freezers).

Data Integrity & Compliance

  • Collect, record, and review data electronically and on paper in strict compliance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Act as a "Point Technician" by assisting with study book preparation, data form creation, data form review, and study protocol reviews.
  • Generate and verify sample accountabilities, manifests, and pack samples for secure shipment.
  • Promptly notify veterinary staff of any clinically significant or critical results.

Position Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline (Medical Technology, Biology, Chemistry, or related science).
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of medical or research laboratory experience is preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Hands-on experience operating, maintaining, and analyzing data from laboratory equipment.
  • Compliance: Strong understanding of study designs, operational procedures, and GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) guidelines.
  • Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills; a high degree of attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work effectively and independently under time constraints.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification: ASCP or AMT certification is highly preferred but not strictly required.
  • Industry Background: Direct experience in a Contract Research Organization (CRO), pre-clinical laboratory, or veterinary lab setting is a massive plus.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Prior exposure to federal regulations relating to the care and use of laboratory animals.
