Laboratory Operations Supervisor / Manager (Evening Shift)

Schedule: Monday–Friday | Evening Shift: 1:00 PM – 10:30 PM

Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours/week

Pay Range: $85,488 – $128,232 annually

(Equivalent to $41.10 – $61.65/hour, based on experience)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Operations Leader to oversee technical laboratory operations during the evening shift across hospital and clinic settings within a large healthcare enterprise. This role is responsible for department, discipline, and/or shift oversight and ensures laboratory services are delivered efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory and quality standards.

The position partners closely with site and enterprise leaders to implement laboratory strategies, optimize resources, support financial performance, promote teammate engagement, and drive high‑quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day‑to‑day operational oversight, work direction, and technical guidance to laboratory staff
  • Oversee clinical laboratory testing, result evaluation, and testing proficiency
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, licensing, and competency standards
  • Monitor and manage departmental budgets; analyze variances and implement corrective actions
  • Lead performance improvement initiatives tied to strategic and operational goals
  • Coordinate orientation, training, and competency validation for staff and students
  • Serve as a technical and regulatory resource for the team
  • Implement and monitor quality indicators; review results for accuracy and validity
  • Select, coach, and develop staff; manage performance, feedback, and discipline
  • Support policy development, standardization efforts, and enterprise collaboration
  • Uphold organizational ethical standards and ensure staff compliance with all policies and laws

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, or equivalent
  • Active Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) certification
  • (ASCP or equivalent accrediting agency)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in technical laboratory services and operations
  • Strong understanding of regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., CAP)
  • Intermediate computer skills and experience with laboratory information systems
  • Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • 5+ years of laboratory experience, preferably with blood bank exposure
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience
  • Experience writing or adapting laboratory policies and procedures
  • Ability to coach and develop future leaders
  • Strong collaboration skills across departments and enterprise teams
  • Flexibility and commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Frequent lifting up to 10 lbs; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and twist throughout the workday
  • Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and infectious agents
  • Routine exposure to blood and bodily fluids
  • Required use of appropriate personal protective equipment
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high‑stress situations
  • Occasional travel may be required


*Offered pay rate will be based on education, experience, and healthcare credentials.
