Job Title: Medical Assistant

Job Description

The Medical Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the success of the department by creating an efficient flow and a welcoming atmosphere for patients daily. This position is responsible for both administrative and clinical tasks, along with managing daily schedules and ensuring timely documentation within the electronic health record. The role requires using critical thinking and problem-solving strategies to provide timely, professional, and compassionate care.

Responsibilities

  • Record patients’ medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records.
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examination, ensuring they are neat, clean, and stocked.
  • Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure vital signs, weight, and height.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the Physician.
  • Provide medically appropriate instructions to patients under the direction of a Physician or Advanced Practice Provider (APP).
  • Ensure all related patient information is in the electronic record prior to appointments.
  • Prepare FMLA, prior authorizations, and disability paperwork.
  • Collaborate and work closely with other medical assistants and ancillary staff.
  • Contribute to a safe and secure environment by following established standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Schedule new and follow-up appointments.

Essential Skills

  • 1+ years of medical assistant experience, with an understanding of back-office documentation including Rx refills, lab requests, FMLA, and referral paperwork.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Epic preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in medical software.
  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments.
  • Knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in high-stress situations.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized.
  • Ability to manage multiple changing priorities effectively.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • GED or High School Diploma required.
  • National certification as a medical assistant is highly preferred (can be in process, to be obtained within 30-60 days).
  • Enjoy providing compassionate care during challenging times for patients.
  • Enjoy growing knowledge in medical, organizational, and administrative practices.

Work Environment

The position is located in Salem, OR, and operates Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch break. The practice was formed to meet the growing need for high-quality rheumatology care in the Salem, Oregon area and the surrounding Willamette Valley. It is a sister practice of a respected oncology practice, known for quality, compassion, and service. The work environment is professional and dedicated to providing excellent care close to home. The practice treats a variety of conditions including Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Diseases, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Lupus, and more.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Salem, OR.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.32 - $29.72/hr.
