Job Title: Medical Support Assistant
Job Description

This role supports a major medical center by providing high-quality administrative and clerical assistance that ensures efficient patient care. The Medical Support Assistant schedules and coordinates patient appointments, manages electronic medical records, supports front desk operations, and serves as a key point of contact for patients and clinical staff. The position requires strong attention to detail, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule and coordinate patient appointments, follow-up visits, and referrals to ensure timely and accurate access to care.
  • Provide front desk support, including patient check-in and check-out, while maintaining a professional and welcoming environment.
  • Manage and maintain electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Respond to patient inquiries regarding appointments, benefits, and available services in a courteous and informative manner.
  • Verify patient information, eligibility, and required documentation to support accurate registration and billing processes.
  • Coordinate closely with clinical staff to support smooth patient flow and minimize delays in care.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing phone calls in a professional, timely, and organized manner.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of patient information in full compliance with HIPAA and organizational policies.
  • Perform general administrative and clerical duties such as data entry, filing, document preparation, and record maintenance.
Essential Skills
  • 2+ years of experience working in healthcare as a medical assistant (MA, MSA) or in a healthcare support position such as patient care coordinator (PCC), patient service representative (PSR), or medical receptionist.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience with patient scheduling in a clinical or medical office setting.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and common healthcare workflows.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and general computer systems.
  • Experience with medical reception, including front desk operations and patient interactions.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills for interacting with patients, families, and clinical staff.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Prior experience in a VA or federal healthcare environment.
  • Hands-on experience using EHR/EMR systems.
  • Knowledge of health insurance processes and patient eligibility verification.
  • Familiarity with patient benefits and referral processes.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, patient-focused environment.
Work Environment

This position operates in a busy medical center environment that includes front desk, reception, and administrative office settings. The role involves frequent interaction with patients, clinical staff, and other administrative team members, primarily using electronic health record systems, patient scheduling software, and standard office technologies such as computers, phones, and MS Office applications. The schedule typically follows standard healthcare office hours, with the need to manage a steady volume of appointments, phone calls, and walk-in patients. Professional attire appropriate for a medical office setting is expected, and strict adherence to patient privacy and confidentiality standards is required.

This is a Contract position based out of Dayton, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.25 - $22.75/hr.
