Job Description

This Medical Assistant role supports the clinic side of a sleep medicine and neurology practice, providing comprehensive back-office support to patients with conditions such as epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, sleep disorders, and general neurological issues. The position focuses on patient care in a fast-paced clinical environment and offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience and grow within a respected healthcare organization.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients efficiently and prepare exam rooms for neurological and sleep medicine visits.
  • Obtain and document vital signs and other required clinical measurements accurately.
  • Manage patient check-in and check-out processes, ensuring smooth clinic flow.
  • Review patients’ current medications and update medical records in the electronic health record system.
  • Perform lab draws and specimen collection when qualified and as needed.
  • Support all back-office functions, including patient documentation, coordination, and follow-up tasks.
  • Utilize the EPIC electronic health record system to enter, update, and retrieve patient information.
  • Assist with case management activities to support continuity of care.
  • Process and track prior authorizations for medications, procedures, and diagnostic tests.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to support care for patients with epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, sleep disorders, and other neurological conditions.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment in accordance with clinic protocols.
Essential Skills
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant credential.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Proficiency using the EPIC electronic health record system.
  • Experience with case management support in a clinical setting.
  • Experience processing prior authorizations for medications or procedures.
  • Ability to perform vital signs, room patients, and manage back-office clinical tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in clinical documentation.
  • Effective communication skills with patients and clinical staff.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in neurology or sleep medicine is beneficial but not required.
  • Comfort working with patients experiencing epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, sleep disorders, and other neurological conditions.
  • Ability to perform lab draws and specimen handling when qualified.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and patient needs throughout the day.
  • Motivation to grow professionally and build a long-term career within a healthcare organization.
Work Environment

This role is based in a clinical setting focused on sleep medicine and broader neurology services, caring for patients with epilepsy, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, sleep disorders, and general neurological conditions. The Medical Assistant works in a back-office clinical environment using the EPIC electronic health record system and standard medical equipment for vitals and lab draws. The schedule is full-time, Monday through Friday, with shifts either from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The environment is collaborative and patient-centered, offering a strong opportunity to gain experience and establish a career path in a well-structured healthcare setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Brentwood, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $21.00/hr.
