Position Summary
The Mechanical Maintenance Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical equipment in a heavy industrial environment. This role focuses heavily on rotating equipment, ensuring optimal reliability and performance of critical assets such as compressors, pumps, motors, turbines, and associated systems. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on experience, a safety-first mindset, and the ability to diagnose and resolve complex mechanical issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on rotating and stationary mechanical equipment
- Troubleshoot and repair industrial compressors, pumps, motors, turbines, gearboxes, and blowers
- Conduct precision alignment (laser/dial), balancing, and vibration checks on rotating equipment
- Inspect and maintain heat exchangers and associated thermal systems
- Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble mechanical components to OEM specifications
- Interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals
- Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective actions
- Support condition-based monitoring programs, including vibration analysis and oil analysis
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with safety standards, procedures, and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to improve equipment reliability and uptime
- Document maintenance activities using CMMS systems
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of mechanical maintenance experience in a heavy industrial environment (e.g., manufacturing, petrochemical, power generation, steel, chemical, pulp & paper, or similar)
- Strong experience working with rotating equipment (compressors, pumps, motors, turbines, gearboxes, blowers)
- Proficiency in precision alignment, equipment rebuilds, and mechanical troubleshooting
- Experience with predictive maintenance technologies (vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis) preferred
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and equipment manuals
- Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems
Education & Certifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Technical degree or certification in Mechanical Maintenance, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred
- Millwright certification or equivalent experience is a plus
