Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer
Job Description

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a technical leader responsible for the design, development, and integration of complex mechanical systems supporting unmanned aerial and unmanned surface vehicle platforms. This role leads major mechanical subsystems and contributes to overall vehicle architecture, ensuring designs meet performance, reliability, manufacturability, and cost objectives. Operating with a high degree of autonomy, the position plays a critical role in bridging early concept development with deployable, production-ready capability. The Senior Mechanical Engineer collaborates closely with aerospace, electrical, and manufacturing teams to develop innovative solutions across propulsion systems, structural components, payload integration, and launch mechanisms. In addition to hands-on technical contribution, this role serves as a mentor to junior engineers and supports the advancement of next-generation unmanned and autonomous systems.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of complex mechanical subsystems for UAVs and USVs.
  • Own mechanical architecture, layout, and system integration for major vehicle subsystems.
  • Contribute to propulsion system design and integration, including engines and supporting mechanical systems.
  • Perform and review engineering analyses to validate performance, structural integrity, and reliability.
  • Oversee prototype fabrication, assembly, and system-level integration.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts during lab testing, ground testing, and field operations.
  • Evaluate materials, manufacturing methods, and supply chain options to optimize cost, weight, and scalability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure cohesive vehicle system design.
  • Contribute to innovative mechanical solutions including payload integrations, launch systems, and structural systems.
  • Support development and implementation of advanced manufacturing approaches such as additive manufacturing and rapid prototyping.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support development of engineering standards, best practices, and design documentation.
  • Participate in technical planning, design reviews, and program execution across multiple vehicle programs.
Essential Skills
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and propulsion systems.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, MATLAB).
  • Experience with advanced manufacturing techniques such as additive manufacturing, 3D printing, and rapid prototyping.
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities and project requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a focus on engine design and prototyping, preferably in the aerospace or automotive industry.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
Work Environment

The work environment offers flexible work hours and a 9/80 work week schedule. The team consists of one Senior mechanical engineer, one mid-level mechanical engineer, and four other team members. Engineers have direct access to advanced tools and technology, such as in-house 3D printing, and can quickly secure the resources they need without supply-chain delays. The environment is agile and well-funded, valuing engineering judgment over bureaucracy, allowing for real technical ownership and creative freedom.
