Job Description
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with strong Design for Manufacturing (DFM) experience to support the development of engineered products used in real-world infrastructure applications. This role is highly hands-on and will sit at the intersection of design and production, ensuring products are not only functional but also optimized for manufacturability, cost, and long-term performance.
Day-to-day, this individual will be responsible for designing mechanical assemblies, supporting production builds, and collaborating closely with manufacturing, electrical, and software teams. This is an opportunity to work on products that are physically built, deployed, and used in the field — not just designed in CAD. The role reports into engineering leadership and plays a key part in driving product quality, efficiency, and scalability.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical systems and assemblies, including enclosures and structural components
- Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to improve cost, quality, and production efficiency
- Create and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and drawings using SolidWorks
- Manage design revisions and workflows using PDM systems (PDMWorks or similar)
- Develop macros and automation tools within SolidWorks/PDM to streamline design processes
- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate structural and thermal performance
- Collaborate with manufacturing teams to resolve design issues and support production builds
- Support prototype development, testing, and production ramp-up
- Generate and maintain BOMs, assembly documentation, and work instructions
- Participate in design reviews and implement feedback from cross-functional teams
Required Experience/Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong experience with SolidWorks (part modeling, assemblies, and drawings)
- Experience with PDM systems (PDMWorks or similar) for revision control and data management
- Demonstrated experience applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles
- Hands-on experience working with manufacturing or production teams
- Strong understanding of materials, fabrication methods (sheet metal, machining, weldments), and assembly processes
- Experience with engineering change processes (ECOs)
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Nice-to-Haves
- Experience designing industrial or outdoor products (IP-rated enclosures, thermal management)
- Familiarity with transportation or infrastructure-related systems
- Basic understanding of electrical systems (AC/DC, Ethernet, UART integration)
- Experience with CFD or advanced simulation tools
- Experience supporting production troubleshooting and root cause analysis
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Pay & Benefits Summary
- Salary: $80,000 – $120,000 annually (based on experience)
