SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing and testing all aspects of mechanical components, equipment, automation and machinery related to Chiron CNC machine tools.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
•
Plan, conceptualize and create mechanical designs and equipment for new and/or modified products.
•
Collaborate and communicate with internal and external cross-functional teams on engineering design and development.
•
Assist with product and process improvement projects which are aligned with the Engineering Department’s goals and objectives.
•
Analyze and assist in resolution of manufacturing issues or non-conformances.
•
Design new options including, drawings, BOM’s and work with vendors / contractors to achieve scope of work.
•
Work closely with the purchasing staff to procure all mechanical materials required for the project.
•
Create and review technical drawings, plans, and specifications using SolidWorks.
•
Enter and maintain part numbers and BOM’s in SAP.
•
Attend startup and specification meetings to ensure that project requirements are achieved.
•
Ensure project timeline is met and project stays within budget.
•
Participate in design reviews.
•
Identify and recommend changes for product and/or process improvement.
•
Assist the Project Assembly Department in identifying and resolving technical problems and adding and testing new options on the machines.
•
Create and/or modify documentation including technical requirements, functional specifications, design specifications, and engineering change notices.
•
Perform detailed documentation to track project development and design processes.
•
Provide technical manufacturing support to other functional areas as needed.
•
Travel nationally and internationally for training or to customer sites to provide root cause analysis. Travel is estimated to be 5%.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
•
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
•
5-10 years of mechanical engineering experience related to product engineering and/or automation design. Experience in the machine tool industry preferred.
•
Strong mechanical background with an interest in hands-on application of engineering principles.
•
Experience in mechanical 3D CAD programs. SolidWorks preferred.
•
Experience with SAP preferred.
