Job Title: Mechanical Designer

Job Description

The Design Engineer is responsible for the overall design of heat exchangers and their related support structures, ensuring they meet customer criteria and adhere to relevant codes. This involves performing design calculations, creating general arrangement and manufacturing drawings, and maintaining accurate documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and validate the overall structure of heat exchangers, including pressure vessels and weld designs.
  • Perform load calculations in accordance with IBC, UBC, BOCA, and ASCE standards.
  • Validate the accuracy of CAS Design.
  • Create general arrangement and detailed manufacturing drawings for customer approval.
  • Provide technical product and quotation support for custom designs in contract orders.
  • Offer technical support to project managers and manufacturing personnel.
  • Meet project milestones and support product engineers and project managers as needed.
  • Collaborate with project managers, customers, sales teams, order planners, and production teams.
  • Participate in project meetings and gate reviews.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (preferably Mechanical) or PE Certification.
  • 3-5 years of experience in an engineering environment involving machining, welding, and assembly operations.
  • Proficient knowledge of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Sec IX, VIII Div 1, IBC, CBC, ANSI codes.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Solidworks, and Inventor.
  • Experience with MathCAD and MRP/ERP systems like Jeeves.
  • Pressure calculations expertise.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and Word.
  • Experience with legacy drawing modifications and customer approval processes.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, judgment, analysis, commercial orientation, concern for excellence, and integrity.

Work Environment

The work environment is a climate-controlled manufacturing and assembly factory. The role primarily involves desk work and remote support, which may occasionally require visits to less pleasant environments such as meat processing facilities or wastewater treatment plants. There is potential for hybrid work arrangements once training is completed. This role is an on-site role Monday - Friday from 8 AM - 5 PM.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.48 - $52.88/hr.
