Mechanical Design Engineer – Plastics Extrusion Equipment


Westerly, RI (Onsite)


I’m working with a growing manufacturer of plastics extrusion equipment that is looking to add a Mechanical Design Engineer to their team in Westerly, Rhode Island.


This role focuses on the design and development of single screw extruders and related capital equipment, supporting projects from concept through assembly.



What You’ll Do:


  • Design single screw extruders and mechanical components using SolidWorks (or similar 3D CAD)
  • Develop and detail capital equipment designs for manufacturing applications
  • Work with vendors on components, materials, and fabrication
  • Support the assembly and build process on the shop floor
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations to improve designs and performance
  • Contribute to custom solutions based on specific customer processes


What They’re Looking For:


  • Experience in capital equipment design (extrusion, injection molding, automation, or similar machinery)
  • Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Understanding of mechanical systems; general electrical knowledge is a plus
  • Ability to work in a hands-on, team-oriented environment
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Engineering degree or equivalent hands-on experience


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 4+ years' of industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical parts and computer-aided design


Nice to Have:

  • Plastics processing experience (extrusion or injection molding)
  • Background in machinery design vs. product-only design
