Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Onsite – Tucson, AZ
Clearance Required: Active DoD Secret
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related)
Position Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support a high‑priority DoD munitions modernization and production acceleration program. This role will focus on the mechanical design, development, and production support of interceptors, rockets, and missile systems critical to U.S. national defense.
The engineer will work on site in Tucson, AZ, collaborating with systems, manufacturing, quality, and test teams to rapidly mature designs from concept through production while meeting stringent performance, safety, and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical design and development of missile, rocket, and interceptor subsystems and assemblies
- Support accelerated production and sustainment of critical munitions programs
- Create and modify 3D models, drawings, and engineering documentation in accordance with DoD and industry standards
- Conduct design analysis (tolerance, thermal, structural, manufacturability, integration) to ensure form, fit, and function
- Interface with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and test teams to resolve design issues and improve producibility
- Support prototype builds, qualification testing, and production troubleshooting
- Participate in design reviews, change control boards, and configuration management activities
- Ensure compliance with DoD, safety, and program requirements throughout the product lifecycle
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline
- Active DoD Secret clearance (must be eligible to access classified programs)
- Experience or academic background in mechanical design of complex assemblies
- Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (Creo, SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar)
- Ability to work 100% onsite in Tucson, AZ
- Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals, materials, and manufacturing processes
- U.S. citizenship required
Preferred / Desired Qualifications
- Experience supporting missile, rocket, interceptor, or aerospace defense programs
- Familiarity with DoD development and production environments
- Experience supporting high‑rate or accelerated production programs
- Exposure to DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, thermal or structural considerations
- Experience working on classified programs
