Job Title: Mechanical Assembler – Optical Systems
Job Description

This role focuses on the mechanical assembly, alignment, and testing of precision optical systems to meet delivery schedules. You will work with lenses, mirrors, filters, and opto-mechanical assemblies, integrating them with electronic components and performing thorough optical and mechanical testing to ensure high-quality performance.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and align multi-element lens and mirror systems and related sub-assemblies with a high degree of precision.
  • Integrate opto-mechanical assemblies with electronic components to create complete optical systems.
  • Perform optical and mechanical test and evaluation activities to verify system performance and quality.
  • Assist with the inspection of incoming optical, mechanical, and electronic components to confirm they meet specifications.
  • Follow detailed assembly drawings, diagrams, and written instructions in a logical and consistent sequence.
  • Handle precision optics, mirrors, lenses, and filters using proper techniques to avoid damage or contamination.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area to support high-precision assembly and testing.
  • Collaborate with a small team to meet production goals and delivery schedules.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly using standard hand tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex assembly drawings, diagrams, and instructions.
  • Understanding of proper handling procedures for precision optics, including mirrors, lenses, and filters.
  • High degree of precision and fine motor skills, with the patience required for detailed work.
  • Ability to use a microscope for inspection and alignment tasks.
  • Ability to read and communicate clearly in English, both in writing and verbally.
  • Capability to sit and concentrate for extended periods while performing detailed assembly and inspection work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with opto-mechanical assemblies is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with optical and mechanical test and evaluation processes is beneficial.
  • Comfort working in a small, collaborative team within a growing organization.
  • Strong attention to detail and a methodical, process-driven approach to work.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Herndon, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
