Job Title: Machine Mechanic

Overview

We are seeking a skilled Machine Mechanic to join our rebuilding and job shop environment focused on custom machine building and equipment restoration. This role is ideal for a hands-on mechanic who enjoys diagnosing mechanical issues, tearing down machinery, identifying root causes, and rebuilding equipment to ensure reliable, productive operation.

You’ll work with used packaging equipment in a collaborative shop setting, contributing directly to machine performance and overall build quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair used packaging machinery
  • Perform machine breakdowns, tear-downs, and rebuilds
  • Identify root causes of mechanical failures and resolve issues efficiently
  • Safely and effectively use hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, and similar equipment
  • Operate power tools including drills and impact tools
  • Read and interpret tape measures and basic blueprints as required
  • Support fabrication and production activities when needed
  • Lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds
Required Experience & Skills
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a maintenance mechanic, machine builder, or custom automotive mechanic/fabricator
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair ability
  • Comfortable working from verbal instructions
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and schematics
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Hydraulics and pneumatics
    • Electrical systems and machine wiring
    • Preventive maintenance practices
    • Machine assembly and rebuild processes
  • Welding, electrical assembly, and fabrication skills are valued
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or trade school education
  • Experience with machine wiring and equipment installation

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Carol Stream, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
