Main responsibilities:

  • Lead and oversee day‑to‑day operations of the Meat Department to ensure high standards of quality, safety, and customer service.
  • Supervise, schedule, train, and assign duties to meat cutters and meat clerks.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety regulations, and workplace safety standards.
  • Cut, trim, prepare, and merchandise a variety of fresh meat products using appropriate equipment and techniques.
  • Monitor inventory levels, write meat orders, receive deliveries, and verify product accuracy and quality.
  • Perform inventory counts and maintain accurate records for sales floor and backroom product.
  • Review departmental reports to identify performance trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement.
  • Deliver an exceptional customer experience, including taking special orders and providing custom cuts upon request.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of meat cuts and meat‑processing techniques
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Familiarity with retail inventory processes and markdown programs
  • Basic computer skills for reviewing communications, reports, and documentation

Abilities

  • Ability to safely operate meat‑processing equipment such as saws, grinders, knives, and tenderizers
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work effectively
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance, including varied schedules

Other requirements:

  • Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including standing or walking for extended periods and lifting up to 35 pounds
  • Ability to comply with company uniform, grooming, and workplace conduct standards
  • Ability to work in a temperature‑controlled retail environment with occasional exposure to varying temperatures
