About the Role
The Materials Supervisor is responsible for leading and coordinating all receiving, warehousing, inventory, and material movement activities to support safe, efficient, and high-quality plant operations. This position coordinates labor force ensuring raw materials, packaging, supplies, and finished goods are accurately received, inspected, stored, moved, and shipped in alignment with Company standards, food safety requirements, and production schedules.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Supervision: Provide leadership and direct supervision of receiving, warehouse, yard, and material handling personnel. Establish clear goals and expectations; schedule labor to meet operational demands; manage daily staffing, hours, and overtime. Provide formal and informal feedback through coaching, performance monitoring, and evaluation.
- Receiving & Raw Material Oversight: Oversee the inspection, analysis, grading, and receiving of incoming raw fruit and materials in accordance with Tree Top grading standards, policies, and quality requirements. Serve as owner of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point(s) (HACCP) related to receiving. Ensure fruit is measured, graded, pressure-tested, segregated by variety, and documented accurately at the time of delivery.
- Warehouse & Finished Goods Operations: Direct and coordinate warehousing, storage, and movement of finished goods, supplies, and raw materials. Safeguard inventory and equipment; ensure warehouse, freezer, cooler, yards, and storage areas are clean, organized, and operating efficiently. Evaluate storage capacity and coordinate product movement as needed.
- Inventory Control & Accuracy: Oversee daily, weekly, monthly, and annual inventory counts, reconciliations, documentation, and reporting for raw materials, packaging, and finished goods. Review production schedules and compare inventory usage; research discrepancies and ensure timely corrections.
- Systems, Documentation & Transactions: Ensure accurate and timely completion of all receiving, transfer, dock-to-dock, shipping, and inventory transactions within M3/Movex, TreeNet, Intelex, and related systems. Oversee processing of invoices, freight, lot tickets, Bills of Lading, grading sheets, and all associated documentation.
- Shipment & Distribution Coordination: Supervise coordination of outbound shipments to customers and external storage locations. Assist in the schedule of inbound and outbound deliveries; coordinate with carriers, dispatch, FedEx, UPS, and third-party warehouses to ensure on-time and accurate shipments as needed.
- Quality, Food Safety & Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Compliance: Ensure compliance with all food safety, quality, GMP, HACCP, Food Defense, allergen, and prerequisite program requirements. Monitor housekeeping standards, enforce proper use of Personal Protective Equipment and promptly escalate concerns related to product quality or food safety.
- Document Control & Training: Develop, implement, and maintain SOPs, SSOPs, and work instructions relevant to materials, receiving, and warehouse operations. Ensure documents are properly approved, controlled, and stored within Intelex. Ensure all personnel are trained to current, approved procedures.
- Continuous Improvement & Lean Initiatives: Actively lead and support Continuous Improvement efforts across receiving and warehouse operations. Identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, cost, delivery, and morale through standard work, 5S, waste reduction, material flow optimization, and inventory accuracy improvements. Participate in and lead root cause analysis, corrective actions, and cross-functional improvement projects.
- Communication & Collaboration: Communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners, including truck drivers and vendors, in a professional and courteous manner. Share daily inventories, operational status, and issues. Participate in staff meetings and cross-functional planning discussions.
- Equipment, Supplies & Assets: Oversee material handling equipment, including forklifts, yard equipment, trucks, and trailers. Coordinate maintenance and repairs; recommend equipment upgrades; order supplies as needed; report defective or unsafe equipment.
- Operational Support: Perform duties under the Working Conditions described below and provide operational support as required to meet business needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Have regular attendance and work appropriate number of hours to get the essential functions completed.
- Conduct employee training, including forklift certification and refresher training.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required, associate or bachelor’s degree in business, agriculture, supply chain, or related field preferred.
- 3 years of experience in receiving warehousing, inventory management, manufacturing, or related operations; experience with fruit or food manufacturing preferred.
- Demonstrated supervisor experience leading and managing multiple employees.
- Basic HACCP, forklift trainer, First Aid/CPR, and DOT training preferred.
