JOB SUMMARY:

The Materials Manager role ensures that the right materials are available at the right time, in the right quantities, and at the right cost, maintaining optimal inventory levels and minimizing waste. The Materials Manager will work closely with distribution operations/teams, integration operations/teams, suppliers, and other departments to streamline operations and support the overall efficiency of the supply chain. This role involves managing a team of direct reports, ensuring efficient and cost-effective material management, and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement strategies for the procurement of materials.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives relating to purchasing, shipping and related processes.
  • Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers to secure the best possible pricing and delivery.
  • In conjunction with procurement associate, develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
  • Use data to ensure Sure Controls is optimizing purchasing, quoting and sell margins for all sides of the business, has proper systems in place for consistency and the handling of exceptions, is using standard products across distribution and integration and has a mix of rationalized OEM and end user accounts that are good Sure Controls customers.
  • Chair Supplier Management Council:
  • Prepare reports and present findings to management.
  • Monitor and evaluate supplier performance and address any issues or concerns.
  • Develop and implement supplier improvement programs.
  • Seek out alternate supply channels for long lead time and/or commodity parts.
  • Manage supplier SPA agreements.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulations.
  • Work with distribution and integration teams to forecast material needs to ensure continuous supply and proactively address any material shortages or delays that could impact schedules.
  • Oversee procurement, project estimating, and shipping team members.
  • Mentor, develop, and train team members in processes and procedures while fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Two-year degree in purchasing, supply chain, or equivalent combination or education and customer service experience.

Experience and/or Training: 5 years related experience and/or training in a logistics or purchasing role; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum 2 years supervising or managing a team.

Technology/Equipment: Computing/Software Skills including Microsoft Office Suite.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Four-year degree in customer service management, business or 5+ years of equivalent experience in a procurement role with people management.

Experience and/or Training: 7-10 years of experience in operations, logistics, or supply chain management experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment is preferred. Familiarity with supply chain and inventory management systems. Working knowledge of forecasting and budgeting.

Technology/Equipment: Computing and software skills. Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and Microsoft Office suite.


PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS:

Sit or stand for extended periods of time.

Speak and hear communications.

Occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.

Occasional travel (local, national) may be required.

May be required to work hours outside of the typical 7:30a.m. - 4:30 p.m. day.


WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

The noise level in the work environment is from quiet to moderate. Occasional remote work may be an option for this position. Occasional travel is required up to 10% (local, national). May be required to work hours outside of the typical 7:30a.m. - 4:30p.m. day.
