Job Title: Material Handler
Job Description

The Material Handler supports shipping, receiving, storage, and order fulfillment for finished goods, materials, supplies, parts, and equipment in a warehouse environment. This role involves working at various heights, operating powered industrial trucks including cherry picker forklifts, and handling products in temperature-controlled areas while maintaining high standards of accuracy, safety, and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Pick, pack, sort, arrange, count, store, and process items for storage and shipment in accordance with established procedures and customer requirements.
  • Ensure orders are fulfilled accurately and on time so customers receive the correct products within the requested timeframe.
  • Receive materials and finished goods daily, verifying the quality, type, and quantity of materials received against accompanying documentation such as packing lists.
  • Accurately document and process received and shipped materials in alignment with company standards and customer specifications.
  • Operate distribution equipment, including powered industrial trucks and cherry picker forklifts, at various heights as required.
  • Work safely and effectively in multiple warehouse temperature zones, including room temperature, cold-room, and freezer-room environments.
  • Follow all applicable distribution and quality standards, including document control and quality policies, after completing required training.
  • Understand and interpret team metrics to support operational goals and identify deviations from standard practices.
  • Communicate effectively with internal team members and provide courteous, responsive customer service.
  • Follow established policies, procedures, and instructions consistently and independently to meet schedules and production targets.
  • Maintain strong, reliable attendance and be ready to start work on time each day.
  • Participate in and complete equipment and process training through one-on-one instruction, on-the-job training, and standard training protocols.
  • Perform highly repetitive warehouse tasks while maintaining focus on safety, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Handle packaged hazardous materials in accordance with safety guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Walk, stand, reach, push, pull, climb, and lift materials as required to support daily warehouse operations.
  • Adapt to changing work schedules, shifts, and overtime needs with advance notice of shift changes.
  • Support occasional local travel needs related to warehouse and distribution operations.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 0–2 years of related experience in material handling, warehousing, or logistics.
  • Ability to operate powered industrial trucks, including forklifts and cherry picker equipment, at various heights.
  • Comfort working at heights and willingness to be trained on cherry picker forklift operations.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to navigate ERP systems, Outlook, and shipping software.
  • Ability to consistently and independently follow policies, procedures, and instructions.
  • Capability to meet schedules and production targets while maintaining accuracy and quality.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills for interaction with internal personnel.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and frequently lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to walk, stand, reach, and climb on a continuous basis and occasionally sit, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Willingness and availability to work any shift with advance notice of shift changes, including varying schedules, hours, and overtime as needed.
  • Ability to work in environments with moderate to high noise levels and varying degrees of stress throughout the day.
  • Ability to work in temperature-controlled environments including room temperature, cold-room, and freezer-room conditions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in logistics within a life science or similar industry is preferred.
  • Prior experience as a material handler or forklift/powered industrial vehicle operator is beneficial.
  • Experience operating reach trucks or similar warehouse equipment is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with shipping, receiving, and inventory control procedures.
  • Ability to recognize deviations from standard practices and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Willingness to complete all required distribution and quality training protocols.
  • Comfort handling packaged hazardous materials in accordance with safety procedures.
  • Potential to earn higher hourly pay when converted to permanent status, depending on shift.

Work Environment

This role is based in a warehouse environment that includes multiple temperature zones: room temperature areas (approximately 59–86°F), cold-room areas (approximately 36–46°F), and freezer-room areas (approximately -4–23°F). Work is highly repetitive and physically active, requiring continuous walking, standing, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds, with regular pushing and pulling of up to 25 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. You will routinely climb and may occasionally sit, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The noise level ranges from moderate to high, and the pace can create varying levels of stress throughout the day. You may handle packaged hazardous materials while following safety and handling procedures. The position requires flexibility to work first or second shift, with typical first-shift hours around 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. (with potential starts at 6:00 or 7:00 a.m. based on daily needs) and second-shift hours around 10:30 a.m.–7:00 p.m. You must be available for shift changes with advance notice and willing to work varying schedules, hours, and overtime as needed. Occasional local travel may be required. Appropriate work attire should be suitable for a warehouse setting and for working in cold and freezer environments, with all necessary safety and protective equipment provided in accordance with company policies.

This is a Contract position based out of Greencastle, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $20.35/hr.
